Pure Whitelisting

Hi,

I was not able to reply to the followng post, so here is a new one.

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Online-Family/Pure-whitelisting-with-onlinefamily/m-p/248387/highlight/true#M5356

How can I achieve pure whitelisting? My target is, that all (!!!) websites are blocked and only the URLs on my whitelist are accessible. I´ve read the two links in the last topic, but they are not helpful in this case. I click on all categories and have one page on my whiteliste. The result is, that several other pages are working.

Question to Norton: Is a pure whitelist working in Norton Online Familly. I´m just testing the software and I would like to have a clear answer like "yes" or "no". If "yes", please post a short explanation waht I have to configure.

Regards

Stephan

Hi Xococ,

Please send me the URL that you've added to the whitelist.  I assume when you said  "several other pages are work", you meant that these pages didn't get blocked and they should.  Please also tell us the URLs of these websites.

You can send the information to me by private message or email me.   You can find my email address at http://community.norton.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/15038

Thanks,

Katie

Hi,

it was simply www.google.com. Why isn´t there a checkbox like "block all websites expect ... [whitelist]". In my opinion it´s not a 100% whitelist, it´s some kind of "grey" and this is not what I´ve been looking for.

Again my question: Is a pure whitelisting possible? It should be easy to answer with "yes" or "no". Sorry, bit I´m a little bit angry. The documentation is really bad.

Stephan

Xococ,

We were trying to get a little more information from you so we know if you have followed the correct procedures to add allowed websites to the whitelist.

To answer your question, Yes.  You can block all the websites except certain websites. Have you done the following?

1. You need to select all categories to be blocked at Settings -> Web and click UPDATE SETTINGS to save the change.

2. Add the URLs of the websites that  you want to allow to be visited under "Specific Web sites to allow" and click UPDATE SETTINGS to save the change.

In order to have the rules applied immediately, please click on Norton Safety Minder icon in the System Tray and select Update House Rules.

3. Now you can log onto the PC as a monitored child to see the effect.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thanks,

Katie
