QBMaker or QuickBooksDownloder

Has anyone encountered QBMaker or QuickBooksDownloder (yes, I spelled it right).  Software installed invisibly.

These were on my computer and caused a lot of difficulty, and then led to a scam phone number posing as Intuit support where the "support agent" wanted to come onto my computer and charge me significantly for services.

I'm surprised that Norton hasn't got a fix for this, and I've found nothing on the Norton site, though there are several posts out there on the web relating to it.

It looks like you may have picked up a PUP, a Possibly Unwanted Program. While they are annoying, they do not cause damage to your system. Some people actually want the 'Features' offered by these programs. They are usually downloaded alongside a legitimate download when you do not uncheck the option for the additional download. There is nothing Norton can do to protect against this kind of download.

Norton products concentrate on malware that can damage your system, that is why some PUPs are not detected.
