Hello I'm using Norton 360 v3.8.0.41, running XP Home.
I unzipped a folder, and the main installation of this program called "kotfsetup.exe" was instantly detected by Norton and quarantined. That's fine, it's happened before. I can see this file under "Trojan.ADH..." in the Recent History and Resolved Security Risks in the View window.
It's when I go to the Quarantine window that it will not show up. I see recent quarantines from last month, June, so it's fairly obvious that it is not there. And when I click details on that "Trojan.ADH..." in the Recent History it doesn't give me an option to restore it. The Risk state says: Fully Removed.
I've also visited Allusers/%Appdata%/Symantec and there is basically nothing there.
It took me an entire week to download that program, and now it's gone. Appreciating any answers.
Hello Mercalus
Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum
You are using an older version of N360. Perhaps the newer version would work better. If you have a current license, then you are entitled to a free upgrade to version 4 if your computer meets the minimum requirements. If your computer is infected though, I would wait until it is cleaned up before upgrading.
When it happened the first time, you should have submitted the file for further analysis. If it was a clean file, then the definitions would be adjusted to reflect that. If you still have the file or can get the maker of the file to submit it, then perhaps it can still be analyzed. If you are able to, here are some instructions for doing that.
Please use this link if you think that a file is a false positive:
https://submit.symantec.com/dispute/
If there is a possibility that the file might be infected, please submit it to Symantec using this link:
https://submit.symantec.com/websubmit/retail.cgi
Another alternative which is fast you can use Threat Expert:

(Thanks to Yaso for providing the links)
Perhaps you can send the zipped file .
Please let us know how you made out. Thanks.
My problem is not analyzing the file for a threat, I know for a fact that it is clean. I'm having a very difficult time actually getting that file back, is all. Norton won't let me restore it from the details or the actions sections, like any other quarantined threat.
I'm wondering what's so important about this file that I simply cannot restore it?

--Also I can't figure out how to upgrade versions.
Thanks,
Mercalus
Hi Mercalus:
If you submit the file to Symantec, either through the panel in resolved threats, or using the link supplied by floplot, the possibility exists that Symantec will correct the definitions that improperly identified the file and you will be able to restore it then.
You won't be able to restore it from quarantine because it is encrypted and unusable. I would try getting a copy of the .exe from one of the reputable gaming forums that provide the mod.
If you got it from one of the peer shares, it could well have a script insert that has triggered Norton.
Thanks for the reply.
EDIT:
Now I'm wondering why I have to submit a file to Norton to regain access to a file that's undoubtedly on my hard drive, encrypted, and in every way MY file. Forgive the venting, but it seems I have no control over Norton. I feel like a puppet to Norton, no offense intended.

HI Mercalus
To upgrade your Norton 360 just download your version (Standard or Premier) from one of these links and install it.
Norton 360 v4 Standard: www.norton.com/n360s_4
Norton 360 v4 Premier: www.norton.com/n360p_4
After you have done the installation you should run liveupdate until there are no more updates. Some updates may require a reboot of your system.
I'm out of time.
I thank everyone who attempted to help me with all their might, and for that, I'm grateful.
Except now it won't matter anymore.
The file is lost forever, I'm afraid.
