Hi. I came back to try NIS after using Norton products a few years ago, and generally I’m pretty satisfied. (I have to turn it off completely once in awhile to do simple scripts under Cygwin requiring writing files, etc., which I found out here is known to other users as well.) I then added NSW, since I like the one-buttons and windows doctor features.
I used to use ghost OK (with only a few snafus) and then went to another product (which is not proper to name here). I’m thinking of coming back to Ghost or to something similar. I do not need online backups (I do that myself with rsync). I want to do incremental full-disk backups each night to backup files on my e: drive , with a new full backup each week. I transfer the weekly backups on my e: drive to the g: drive on which I keep a few weeks of backups. My present software makes that easy. I do not know the major differences between Ghost, Backup and Restore, and whatever 360 does?
Should I be trying to shift to 360 or 360 Premium for our two machines? (I have two licenses for each of the above software.) If so (a big if?) will Symantec simply let me “trade in” NIS + NSW for 360 (Premium)? The present (to become past soon) version of NIS seems easier to control than 360, but is this changing?
Thanks.
Lester
