Question about 1 user / 3 pc and privacy issues

Hello!  My Aunt recently bought the Norton 2011 internet security software that allows for the "1 user / 3 pc" option.  She has 2 extra slots available for my brother and I.  We have our own apartments and our own computers, but we're still concerned about our internet privacy.  Neither of would want anyone seeing what websites we frequent.  (We love our Aunt, she can be a bit nosy at times!)  :smileywink:

Question is: being that our Aunt would be the primary user for this "1 user / 3 pc" software, would she then be able to see all our online business, webite usage, etc, if we signed up using her account info?

Thanks in advance!

Since you don't all live in the same household -- sounds like a good thing <gdr> -- technically you are outside the licence which is for N PCs in one household although I think Norton will accept that eg college students not actually at home are still part of the household.

The only commonality between the three computers, as I understand it,  is that when you two activate your copies you must link that with her MyNortonAccount which she will have created using her email address and her password for it. If you do not do that then you will be told that the KEY is not valid since it is already in use by someone else.

Provided she does not have access to your network by having the password for that then I don't see how she can access your stuff, certainly not any more by having the same Norton product than anyone else "out there". For example can your bother see what you do and vice versa?

Check what others say ....

Thanks for your quick response, Hugh.  The way you explained it makes a lot of sense, and I showed your answer to my brother as well.  We both feel comfortable enough now to use my Aunt's two extra slots without constantly worrying about our respective online privacy, etc.

I appreciate the help!

Just be aware of how you have to do it .... and don't be annoyed if the Norton watchdog is one jump ahead.

If the worst comes to the worst you can buy Norton in retail stores much below the on line prices because the stores can discount while Norton can't do that very much or they'll upset their distributors.

One important question -- what security software do you have on your PCs at present? Please post here what each of you have installed since any other brand must be removed with special software that that company usually supplies; likewise if you have older versions of Norton ....
