Question about spam

 What triggers NIS 2009 AntiSpam, to declare an email message as spam?  I was looking through my Security History - View AntiSpam and was surprised to find several email messages marked as spam, most were clean.  At first I thought maybe if the email contained a mailing list, it was listed as spam.  Then I noticed there were messages with mailing lists that were not considered spam.  I even received a message from Norton Quality Assurance (a support related survey), that was listed as spam.  Does email sent from a company cause it to be marked as spam?  It did seem like most of the, listed as spam notices, were from companies.

  I guess I could click on "This is not spam" option but it's not presenting a problem, I was just wondering.

 Following are the criteria that Norton AntiSpam uses to categorize spam:

Blocked list/Allowed list

Norton AntiSpam provides an option of maintaining a Blocked list and an Allowed list. The email addresses or domain addresses that appear in the Blocked list are blacklisted. Any email message that is received from an email address that appears in the Blocked list is categorized as spam. It is then automatically moved to the Norton AntiSpam folder. An email message that is received from an email address that appears in the Allowed list is always allowed. It is directed to the inbox or a desired folder.

Predefined spam rules or spam definitions
When an email message is received from an email address that appears in neither the Blocked list nor the Allowed list, then the predefined rules are applied to the message. If the message matches any of the predefined rules, then it is categorized as spam and is moved to the Norton AntiSpam folder.

User-defined spam rules
Through this technique, you can define what is spam and what is not spam, based on the following conditions:
    *  The From field of an email message
    *  The body of the message
    *  The subject line of a message
    *  The entire email message

If most of the emails are marked as "Spam", then there may be an issue with the AntiSpam integration. Try turning off/on the AntiSpam from NIS 2009. Also, reset the client integration of AntiSpam for Outlook/Outlook Express.

 That pretty much answered my question about spam.  Only a few of the messages were marked as spam, that is what caught my attention.  I was just surprised to see that Norton's message, listed as spam.  No problem, no harm..

 Thanks for the reply..
