Question about "Symantec framework stopped working" notification

NIS 2012
Vista Home Premium 32 bit
Vista SP2

I clicked on the norton icon in the system tray. The GUI(?) opened ( the window thing where you can look at history run scans etc)
So I clicked advanced>history
As it was going to open the history tab, a windows box opened and said Symantec framework has stopped working. It was open for about a second and then the history log opened.
The green check mark was always there during this time and never got a red X
I have read other posts where Symantec framework stopped working, and people were instructed to reinstall Norton. Not sure if the same is true of my example
1. Does this mean my NIS is not working and my protection was compromised ?
2. Do I need to uninstall/reinstall NIS? : (
