Question concerning NIS 2011 download and NRT

I am going to uninstall NIS 2010 on my computer and Run the NRTand  install NIS 2011.

My question is

should I download NIS 2011 to my desktop BEFORE I uninstall NIS 2010 and run the NRT or wait until AFTER I uninstall NIS 2010 and run the NRT?

My concerns are

that if i wait until after the uninstall of NIS 2010 and NRT, I will be downloading, probably a 70mb file, with no antivirus running. OR if i download NIS 2011 to my desktop before,  the NRT might remove it?

Make sense?:smileyindifferent:

Thanks Kevin

Hi TooStrong,

Follow this order to ensure that your computer is protected at all times during the reinstallation:

-first, back up your NIS 2010 Identity Safe data beforehand if you use Identity Safe:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nco.nsf/0/e5a44e06f97b3f89882572260060120f?OpenDocument&seg=hm&lg=en&ct=us

-download the Norton Removal Tool from here and save it to your desktop (remember that it removes ALL Norton products from your computer):
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN

-download the full NIS 2011 installation package from here and save it to your desktop:
http://www.norton.com/nis11

-make sure you have got your product key handy (you can get it from your Norton account) just to be on the safe side.

-if you wish, you can create a system restore point

-disconnect physically from the internet (remove the internet cable) that way your computer is not exposed.

-if you are in Vista or Windows 7: right-click on the removal tool icon, run as administrator; run the removal tool twice to deinstall NIS 2010, rebooting each time after every run

-after running the removal tool: if in Vista or Windows 7: right-click NIS 2011 icon, run as administrator, let it install itself. When it wants to connect with the web, connect again to the internet. Run LiveUpdate immediately afer installation until there are no more updates to be downloaded and reboot your computer

In other words: first save NIS 2011 and the Norton Removal Tool to your computer, then disconnect from the internet, and then remove NIS 2010 :-)

Thank You, And just to be sure i am understanding you right. when i run the NRT it will not delete the NIS 2011 program that i downloaded and saved ( but did not install yet) to my desktop?

No, the Norton Removal Tool will not delete the downloaded NIS 2011 installer. I can confirm this from my own experience :-) If you're still feeling unsure, you can save the installer to a USB flash drive or external hard drive.

Thanks

TooStrong - When you update to NIS2011, do you know you will lose your AOP feature:smileysad:Norton Online Family (NOF) has replace the AOP in the NIS2011 version.

Yes, Thank you, that was the only reason stopping me from updating to NIS 2011. AOP was great.
