I don't see any specifications requirments on the download page for NBRThttp://security.symantec.com/nbrt/overview.aspx?

Hi.
I use NBRT 64-bit Windows7. Works.
Hi Prior,
Thanks for your reply.
I was able to create a bootable USB flash drive on this Windows 7 64 bit laptop, and have been updating virus definitions successfully.
But when I tried to test the USB flashdrive, it does boot from the USB flashdrive, but after loading windows, I get the following error:
"Norton Bootable Recovery Tool failed to launch. Required file not found. Program will exit. [ERR-0001]."
I uninstalled NBRT and downloaded the latest version, and re-created the USB flashdrive, but when I tried to boot from that I get the same error.
So I am wondering whether you have ever actually tested the USB flashdrive you created on your 64 bit maching?
Would love to get this to work, because it's so easy to update the virus definitions to the USB drive, whereas with the CD option you have to re-create it rather than just update it.
Oh, another point: I tried taking the newly created USB flashdrive to my desktop Windows XP SP3 32-bit machine to boot from that, and it did work there without the error message.
I'd love to hear whether you were able to successfully boot from your USB flashdrive on the 64 bit machine.
Thanks!
I used the СD.
Now I will create a USB flashdrive and check it for you.
I created a USB flashdrive and checked on the desktop Windows 8 x64. Works.
I can assume that when you create a USB flashdrive will need to add specific drivers to the laptop.
Wow, so it booted successfully into the program for you.
Did you have to add specific drivers?
Is it because mine is a laptop that I need specific drivers?
The laptop is a dell inspiron which I bought this past april 2012.
I don't really know what drivers or how I would find them.
Can you advise?
Thanks!
I also checked the work NBRT USB flashdrive on Lenovo Y560P laptop with Windows 7 x 64. Works.
Drivers are not added.
So I do not have this problem, I can not help in the decision.
In the BIOS you have correctly pointed out the boot?
Yes, the BIOS is set to boot from USB before the HD, and it does seem to be working because the windows loads differently from the HD and I do get that error from NBRT itself. When the flash drive is not inserted, it boots to the HD with no errors.
Thank you so much for all the tests you did,... very useful info to know it works for you. And I guess it was helpful to you to verify that it boots into the program so if you ever need it, you know it will work.
Many thanks, PRIOR.
Check again bios. Different machines BIOS is different.
There are a variety of USB flash boot
I have so
SOLVED: NBRT [ERR-0001] "Required File Not Found"
Hello everyone,
I have been struggling with a NBRT (Norton Bootable Recovery Tool) Error when trying to boot from a USB flashdrive which I created using the latest NBRT download (version 5.1.0.26).
I was able to see that the USB was successfully created, and subsequently even updated definitions sucessfully, but when I tried to test the USB flashdrive by booting to it, I would get the error message.
I knew that the computer (a Dell Inspiron Windows 7 64-bit laptop purchased just last April 2012) was in fact booting from the newly created NBRT USB flashdrive, because the bootup messages are different from when the computer boots from its HD.
Booting from the USB flashdrive, I would see "WINDOWS IS LOADING FILES" message first (different from when it boots from the internal C: drive).
After the "WINDOWS IS LOADING FILES", message (when booting from the USB flashdrive), I would see the familiar
"STARTING WINDOWS" splash screen with the windows logo.
Next I woud see the NBRT yellow background, and after a while, I would get the error message as follows:
"Norton Bootable Recovery Tool failed to launch. Required file not found. Program will exit. [ERR-0001]."
The solution: The NBRT created USB flashdrive gives this error when booting from one of the newer USB 3.0 ports.
I tried booting using a 2nd USB port that was also USB 3.0 and got the same error.
But when I booted from my computer's older USB 2.0 port: I DID NOT GET THE ERROR, and was able to get to the NBRT program screen that shows my installed NIS key code.
So if you get this same error message, check your computer's manual to see which of your USB ports are 3.0 and which are the older 2.0. My computer has 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, and one eSATA/USB combo connector with USB PowerShare. This last port must be USB 2.0, because it worked to plug the USB flashdrive into it as well.
Hope this helps save others from not being able to use their NBRT created USB flashdrive when they might actually need it!
May I suggest that Symantec post this info in a sticky and also put a note on the NBRT download website noting that any USB flashdrives created with NBRT will only work in the older USB 2.0 slots and not the newer USB 3.0 slots.
