Question for Quads

I think I've been infected

Something called Deal Cabby is present

How do I get rid of it?

Thanks

That doesn't sound like my area, but the area that is for the users on the Other Products board and Ghost etc.

See,  I stay out of areas that are not my specialty.

Thank you for responding. I no longer have any access to that computer so I will need to seek assistance elsewhere.

I too try to stay out of areas that are not my speciality. I do however, try to assist where I might be able to prevent a user from making an error which will create a worse problem. Your observation is noted and I will remember it.

Thanks

Dick,

I am not an expert on imaging, not sure I could be of much help myself but from your OP it sounds like you may have used the Windows System Image (or something other than Ghost) to do your image prior to loosing access. In any case there is a forum that has been if great help to me concerning Windows 7 issues "sevenforums.com" they have a dedicated forum for backup and restore covering many programs used for imaging, I bet someone there can help you.

Hope this is of some help -- Bill

Thanks muchly for the tip
I used windows to reformat the drives and the images were Ghost made in both cases. The problem has esclated a bit now since I no longer have any access. When I have time tomorrow evening I'm going to try using the SRD and restore the primary drive. If that works then I will see if I can determine what is causing the problems. Quads response leads me to believe that it's not a virus or trojan but something else. I'll keep folks posted as I am able. I'm on another computer right now.

Again, thanks

I think I have a problem that is beyond my ability to solve.

Went to reimage my two test drives - reformat and restore saved images. Lost access to both drives. Rebooted and had to use Ghost to recover primary drive so I could come here to ask for help.

If this is something you are willing to help me with, I really would appreciate it. If not, I hope you will direct me to someplace where I can get help

Thanks

Thinking about it, may not have come in on its own.

But more than likely OTL, to find it in the BHO's and it's paths as well as after adwcleaner.

Thank you
Translation please

OTL

BHO

Assume adwcleaner is a utility I should find and run?

edit:  found adwcleaner, loaded onto a flash drive

edit, edit: will not run adwcleaner

what next?

thanks

OTL, Adwcleaner on Flash Drive, huh, are you pulling my legs, I have dealt with OTL on this forum before many times, and adwcleaner on Flash Drive, hahaha mind boggles with where that is going.

I have looked into it and Adwcleaner won't deal with PUP.Dealcabby but does deal with it's friends.  2 OTL logs in one .txt file is attached showing DealCabby and Friends.

Again, thank you for responding
I have looked at the text files and they are greek to me.

I made the 'assumption' that adwcleaner was a removal utility. From your response I guess not. I had something on the flash drive but deleted it based on your response.

Should I now review what you have done in the past to remove OTL and apply it to my system?

Thanks

I have answered your question,  You are a Guru and it is a simple removal

Good Luck

I think the correct order for that is I am simple and a guru so it takes me a bit to understand and comply. I could be that I was granted my star before I was fully ready and trained for the job. I'll keep trying and learning.

This is an interesting conversation,Dick did you manage to work it out?

Mo,
The process continues

And hello dickevans,

A couple of thoughts come to mind:

1.  I have worked professionally with some very brilliant people; so brilliant that as I began to ask them a question, they already knew what I was asking before I finished, and as they were answering my question, they had already begun thinking about other things.  :smileywink:

2.  I intended to go to an I.S./I.T advisory website a few weeks ago, but it was a trap. I downloaded the P.U.P. named "iLive" with all its bells and whistles that got into several applications. Ultimately, I performed a moderate internet search about "iLive" and how to remove all its garbage. And, in that case, some of the removal instructions were available on YouTube.

Hope it can be that simple for you too.

Best...

Quads, you're not getting cranky, are you ? I hope you're in a good mood, if ever I need you !.......  :smileylol:

I answered the question, thread finished for me.

Good news Dick,I hope it all goes well.Quads is worth his weight if not more in gold..I wish computers made that much sense to me.

A correction to my earlier post about removal of a Potentially Unwanted Program (since too much time has passed to allow me to edit it), the P.U.P. I incorrectly mentioned as "iLive" is/was actually "iLivid".

"iLive" appears to be a valid seller of products related to portable entertainment devices, etc.; Not to be confused with a download of a browser hijacker pile of stuff that included an unwanted installation of the iLivid download manager / video player / toolbar, etc.

Although Norton puts a green "safe" check mark next to the iLivid weblink on my search engine, an internet search shows many people consider it to be an Unwanted Program.

As of Sept. 24, 2012, CNet no longer recommends nor provides a link to the download of iLivid. Read their updated Editor's Notes here (Norton, please get a clue):

It has to be remembered that we receive the Guru status for our knowledge of the Norton Products, not malware removal.

If a Norton scan cannot fix the problem, we need to ask for help from those with the experience and training to do the job.

Quads, you are invaluable to this and other online communities, with your help for those of us in over our heads.
