A few weeks ago when I booted my PC and opened NIS to update the files a "Patch" notice appeared. Naturally, I let Norton perform the update. After the patch update and the files updates I ran Quick scan. Prior to downloading the Patch, a Quick scan would search approximately 5,200 files. After the Patch it now search over 10,000 files. Not only that, it picked up tracers it had not previously found such as Doubleclick, which is installed every single time I run Firefox, an others such as go.espn. I was very happy with this outcome. Running a full scan did not produce a noticeable increase in the number of files searched but it, too, found and removed these tracers.
Now, however, Quick scan searches are back to searching only about 5,200 files and finds no tracers nor do the full scans. Running HitMan Pro verifies that the Doubleclick tracer is there after every use of Firefox.
Why did NIS stop identifying these tracers? Why are the Quick scans searching fewer files than it did after the new Patch download?
Thanks,
RichardA
