Whenever I run a NIS 2011 Quick Scan manually to delete all new tracking cookies (before I switch off the computer), I regularly get 10, 20 or more tracking cookies that Norton has deleted. This is with Windows 7 Home Premium.
When I did the same on my old XP machine, I only used to get about 3 or 4 tracking cookies deleted.
Does anyone know if there is a reason for more tracking cookies being found with Windows 7 than with Windows XP?
I set up all the NIS settings on the Windows 7 machine to be exactly the same as on the old XP machine. I am using IE8 (same as on the XP machine). I'm also using exactly the same router (settings unchanged). Also, my internet "surfing pattern" has not changed (just email, banking and a few of the same websites each time).
Not a real problem, but just curious why NIS seems to be finding many more tracking cookies now that I'm on Windows 7.
Hi Bombastus,
I think I may have stumbled on how to solve this little issue:
In Internet Explorer, go to Tools...Internet Options...Privacy...Advanced, then:
- tick the "Override automatic cookie handling" box;
- under First-party Cookies, click "Accept";
- under Third-party Cookies, click "Block";
- finally, tick the "Always allow session cookies" box.
I remembered that I had set this up on my old XP machine, so may be the reason for the different behaviour under Windows 7.
Fingers crossed!
