All attempts to remove an entry from the list of programs within the “Quiet Mode Programs” window (opened through the Settings | Miscellaneous Settings | Silent Mode Settings | User-Specified Programs | Configure option) are unsuccessful.
Have other members of the forum community experienced this problem with Norton Internet Security 2010 (version 17.1.0.19 running on Windows Vista 32-bit)?
Thank you.
Interesting! What happens when you remove an item from Quiet mode? Do you receive any error message? Or the window freezes?
Vineeth--
Vineeth, the difficulty is that I am unable to remove an entry from the list of programs within the “Quiet Mode Programs” window. The item I am seeking to remove corresponds to a program that I have uninstalled, so its continued presence in the Quiet Mode list has no practical consequences. However, I believe that Symantec may wish to investigate the malfunction of the “remove” option as a potential application “bug.”
Can anyone else in the forum community confirm the existence of this problem?
I confirm this behavior.
But, I don't think that this would be a bug. Simply because when you install the program again, you don't have to add it to the user specified programs list.

I have tried this on a Windows XP PC. I added VLC player to Quiet Mode, then uninstalled VLC player through Add or Remove programs. I was able to remove VLC from quiet Mode after this. So it does not seem to be a bug.
I am not sure about Windows Vista.
mythbuster, what is the version of Windows you are using? Is it Vista?
Vineeth--
Mythbuster, thank you for confirming the existence of this “bug.” Whether you reinstall a program or not, it seems to me that Norton Internet Security 2010 should allow a user to easily remove an entry from the Quiet Mode Programs list.
Vineeth, it’s interesting that you can’t reproduce this behavior on Windows XP. It may be specific to Windows Vista, for some reason.
I'm sorry that I have to take back my confirmation. I somehow misunderstood your problem and my bad. I see the entries to be existing in the user specified list after uninstalling the program. However, on clicking remove it goes off just fine.

I found a solution to the problem.
From an image backup (created using ShadowProtect Desktop), I copied the single executable file referenced in the Quiet Mode Programs entry back onto my operating system volume in its original folder. Once that file was restored, I was able to select the corresponding entry and remove it from the list of programs within the Quiet Mode Programs window. Note that I did not reinstall the actual application -- only manually restored the specific executable named in the Quiet Mode Programs entry.
Thus, at least in some cases, it appears that Norton Internet Security 2010 may be unable to remove an entry from the list of programs within the Quiet Mode Programs window when the referenced executable is absent.
