Ransom message

I recieved an email suggesting that the sender has bought my old email address on the dark web and gained acccess to my system.

They claim that the have installed Cobalt Strike "Beacon" and demanded a ransom payment or will email all my Mailing list with comprimising videos captured by my "camera" ( which I don't have, anyway).

I'm treating it as a scam and blocked the sender, however I'd be interested to know if there is any truth to there claim that they have copied data from my syetem.

Very good chance they got your old email address from a data breach somewhere.  Sometimes they will even get an old password this way and use it to try to convince users they have hacked their system.  In reality it is just a scam and all they have is your old address.  See: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/possible-ransomware
