Hi Folks- Newbie here.
Yesterday my Wife's PC came down with the Green AV "infection" that was bad enough to interfere with her work and put a Monday morning deadline at risk. I found billowen's post and Quad's solution on this forum
http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=69677
and we managed to download and run Hijackthis. In a panic to get this resolved quickly, we removed the same items that Quad listed from billowen's log without realizing that they may have been specific to his computer, and that we might be deleting things that were necessary for ours. Though it seemed to have saved us, and allowed her to finish her work and meet this morning's deadline, I'm now wondering if we might have caused ourselves future troubles by rushing through this. Can anyone (Quad?) tell me if these deleted items may have been something potentially critical? So far, her PC seems to be operating normally, but we haven't done any extensive testing of all apps and functions. There is still a bogus "warning" that appears beneath the Norton toolbar, but the ridiculous pop-ups and "system memory dumps" have stopped.
Thanks for any help!
