Re-install Help

I tried to re-install after using System Recovery. I found the key but it is not clear to me how to do the re-install. Some direction would be helpful. I have read a previous similar request but do not understand it. Thank you.

Hi jborchel

If you still have norton on the computer then Check for Norton updates manually or right click the Norton icon in the task bar and click, run live updates, and then recheck until there are no more updates restarting the computer as requested.

If Norton is not on the computer you need to set some Internet security so windows defender and windows firewall and then get up dates and recheck for updates until there are no more updates restarting as requested.  If you have windows 7 or above then Norton will manage the windows security automatically if its windows vista or below then you’ll need to manually disable windows defender and windows firewall after installing Norton.

If Norton is not on the computer can you repost to confirm this and the reason for using system restore.

Intesec,

Thank you for replying. I have had Norton Internet Security Suite($69.99/yr) on this laptop with automatic renewal for about three years. The laptop was getting very slow, as it always does after a few years, so I decided to go through a System Recovery. It is a Vista 64 bit pc. I am trying to get Norton re-installed on the laptop and have been unable to figure out how to get through their maze to find where I can enter the key #. I can get to the Product Details page where it shows me the key # and the product serial number. I see a Download button, a Buy a Key button, and an Access Norton Rescue Tools link that look like likely suspects, if I am on the right page to start the process. I looked at the link. I don't think that is what I want. Download says I do not have any installs remaining. I'm not interested in Buy a Key.

Can you give me some direction?

Hi jborchel

When you say system recovery I assume you mean reset to factory settings which means you need to completely remove the trial security software that came with the computer first even if its Norton by following the process below.

You need to set some Internet security so windows defender and windows firewall and then get up dates and recheck for updates until there are no more updates restarting as requested.  If you have windows 7 or above then Norton will manage the windows security automatically if its windows vista or below then check to see if you need to manually disable windows defender and windows firewall after installing Norton.

Log into Norton management on the link below using your Norton account email address and password, click on my account, click on product details, click on the trashcan (bin) next to your activation, this will free up the key but it may have a time delay before it becomes available.

Click on the yellow download button and save the download.  You can use a recent download of the Norton product if you have one.  You can use your disc if you have got one but you’ll have a large amount of downloading to get up to date as the disc is frozen with the version at the time of its manufacture.

Make a note of your current Norton product key from this page.

Conflict in security software can be the cause of various issues even if the security software has been uninstalled the debris left on the system needs to be removed with the removal tool for the specific security software.

Use the process below to remove your previous security programme.  You’ll need to download and save the removal tool from the security software’s main website or use the singularlabs website on the link below and choose from the list.

http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software

Uninstall using windows add/remove programme.  Check that the security software is not there.

Restart the computer.

Run the removal tool.

Restart the computer.

This process should be performed for each security software to be uninstalled, meaning one at a time.  If you have previously uninstalled then the removal tool needs to be run and the computer restarted.

Install Norton and follow the prompts to activate it, run live updates as many times as it takes to get, no more live updates, restarting as requested.

Has Avast been on the computer?

If you have any questions please ask before starting.

Intesec,

I've done all of that but that is not the problem. The problem is how do I download the re-install packet for my laptop without it telling me I'm out of licenses and I must buy a new key?

Nevermind. I was able to get on-line chat experience from Norton and they installed it for me. Thank you for the time you spent.

Glad to hear they handled it for you.

The answer to your earlier question <<  The problem is how do I download the re-install packet for my laptop without it telling me I'm out of licenses and I must buy a new key?  >> is also that you can always ask here and we can give you a download link including for earlier versions if you need one for some reason OR you can download a trial version which will install and run for a short period during which you can apply a key liberated by using Norton's Manage feature.
