Re-installing after format advice:

Hello,

I am intending to format my PC shortly and I am wondering something with regards to re-installing NIS 2012.

In the past I have simply installed NIS 2011 from the discs (as that is the product serial key I am using for my current subscription) and then updated it to 2012 from there.

However I have since purchased a boxed version of NIS 2012, and so I am wondering whether it is possible to install from the 2012 discs and enter the old (but still with time remaining) 2011 key, or if I still need to install 2011 first.

Thank you for any advice.

Hi Falco:

No worries.

Here is the link to NIS 2012 - click here. Download it to your desktop and install using your current Product Key.

Be sure to run Live Update until there are no more updates and reboot when required.

Hope that this answers your question.

Thanks for the reply.

What I normally do when formatting is disconnect the PC from the router until after I have installed NIS, which I then update til nothing - reboot - update  (and repeat until done) and then update windows.

Obviously that means not being able to download the installer (unless I just leave the PC connected anyway), so I was hoping to just use the discs (and then update etc obviously).

Presumably if the downloaded 2012 installer accepts a 2011 key with time remaining on it, then the disc version might also?

HI Falco:

Just download the installer to a USB stick in that case prior to reformatting. You will prompted to reconnect to the internet later on.

Please use your existing Key from NIS 2011 if it has days remaining.

It's really easy and makes for a cleaner install. :smileyhappy:

P.S. Remember to install with Administrator privs.

Adding to Atomic_Blast,

If you use identity safe, Please take back up of identity safe data and you can import this data after installing NIS2012

Follow below instructions to take backup of identity safe data

Hello Falco

You haven't told us what operating system you are using and if it's a real reformat or just going back to factory defaults.
