hello.
searched MSRT and found only one unrelated thread in this forum. scanned through almost 30 pages of threads and found one that almost resembled my problem - posted by "somebody".
vista 64 home premium with NIS 2009.
back in mid-august, microsoft's MSRTx64 was downloaded. after chores were done, i ran the tool to scan the pc while off-line. when i returned to the pc, the scan came up clean but NIS had been disabled. after i "re-enabled", i ran the MSRT again and NIS was disabled again. i figured out later that it was never re-enabled because the databases were already out-of-whack. instead of warning me there and then, the program accepted my changes and ok and closed the window.
i did a system restore to a few days earlier. upon bootup, NIS 2009 remained non-functional because its signatures databases were out of date.
went on-line to update and was shocked to find almost half a gig needed to be downloaded. once updated and updated again with another 20 mb, full scans were done with NIS and MBAM in normal mode. they came up clean and scans to this day remain clean. a few days later, liveupdate presented another sizable download containing program and engine updates. at that time, i wasn't sure if it was coincidental or fast corporate response.
"found" this forum but no reports of similar occurrences.
