Re newing Norton 360 - further problems :-(

Continuing to try to update my Norton account on my desktop, and having difficulty in accessing the symantec server.  Whatever I click on in Management, it takes me to a page I haven't seen before in IE which purports to be a Norton safe site called 'browsersafeguard' but up comes a message 'no such host known'.  I unticked proxy server thinking that might be hindering things and the next time it took me to the 'browsersafeguard' page up came the warning 'WELL KNOWN PHISHING SITE' !!!

Any ideas how I can access the Symantec server in order to update my new Norton account and get rid of this phishing site?

Hi, Freddles.Try a direct sign in.

https://manage.norton.com/

Then when you've finished, clean up your browser history, and maybe run a quick scan ?

Thanks for your reply.  Have been worrying about the phishing site all night long, wondering if I had given away any vital info whilst trying to get somewhere.  Logged onto my desktop today and find that my Norton 360 has been renewed!  :smileyhappy:

I did try logging off several times yesterday in the hope that rebooting might solve things, but seems like it wanted to do things in its own time.  :smileyindifferent:
I will now try to find the phishing site and remove it.

It would seem that deselecting the proxy server brought up the info on the phishing site, is there any advantage to using the proxy server?  I have read up on what a proxy server does, and they would seem to be advantageous in some respects, but not informing me of the phishing site was not one of them. :-/

Edit:  Just tried the direct sign in link and see next to the desktop logo ' computer protection at risk', wasn't sure before if this meant that it was because Norton was about to run out or because I'd been having trouble completing the security section scan, but that problem too seems to have cleared up overnight according to what is showing on the desktop, so why is it still showing a 'white cross on red' sign next to the desktop logo in my Norton account?

Hi, Freddles. It's possible than the phishing site may have left some unwanted stuff on your system.

I'd suggest running a Full Scan with 360 after Live Updating until no more are found, and see if it picks up anything.

Let us know how you go.

You can also do a scan with MalwareBytes Free version only,as a back up scan.

Don't use the Pro version, as that has a real time component.
