Hello Gumpster,

I'm not entirely sure I understand the situation. Can you walk me through it so I can attempt to reproduce it?

Thanks,

Matt

after the update to 2.3.0.9 I went to (the bottom left  in main screen)  my network. There it now says my pc is at risk and I must do a set up with a codename to find other computer(s)  in the network also having n360v2 with the same filled out code and only after that I can switch off external control (this is translated by me from my dutch version; may be in the english version its called diff) At first the pc' s were not found but when I did the set up on both (2 in my case) at the same time and it was succesful. In my network overview it now shows two pc's with a red cross on them and stating both are at risk whilst I have no idea what to do about it. Moreover when I switch off the "ëxternal control" (only possible after the set up I just explained) its still stated that my pc (and the other one in the network)  is at risk.

I dont know what "external control" does or is supposed to do anyway.

Hope ya get the situation now ; if not pls  advise

Moved to a thread of it’s own for better exposure.

This thread is actually the same as the one by Rob_N about the red X (actually its a white X at a red background  )

indeed... reading closely i see now that they are related .     When I made that move last night I had scanned the first post and had the thread topic in my head as 'relating to powerdesk' and then jumped to the new post.   I actually remember jumping back to the first post and again not reading closely enough, because in my head the word "blue" in the first line referred to 'blue screen of death' and so I jumped back and moved the new post

Just goes to show mods are human and make mistakes just like everyone else. :smileysurprised:

Now I'll go send that post back to this thread and we can be back on topic.....

I also now have the red X by My PC on the Network Security Map before yesterday I always had a green tick,my 360 version is also 2.3.0.9.I only have one PC in my network. Is is something to do with this update?

Everything else - PC Security,Identity Safe etc is green

Hello Rob,

We were able to reproduce this in-house and are working on identifying the root cause. Please stay tuned for an update.

Matt

I have the same exact problem, glad to see it's not just me. :smileysurprised: It seemed like the Chat Technicians had never heard about this problem before and I started getting kind of hopeless after they couldn't do anything for me. Wish I had found this thread before I posted one of my own; the title is a little ambiguous. I hope you guys can find a solution soon. Here is the link to my thread if anyone is interested.

I just switched from Microsoft Windows Live OneCare to Norton 360 v2 and I am having the same problem. It keeps telling me on my network map that "My PC" is at risk. However, I am green in all other areas of Norton 360. I have configured remote monitoring and the issue has not gone away. I have one other wireless PC on my network, which shows secured. My machine is wired into my Motorola Cable gateway.

I hope there is a fix for this soon.

EDIT: I am running Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3.

Hello Tek, et al.

As I indicated, we have reproduced this in-house and are working on a solution. Based on our current information, we believe this to represent only a problem with the Home Networking status notification, not a problem with your actual security. If the product interface outside of Home Networking is confirming that you are protected, you are.

I apologize for the confusion.

Thanks,

Matt

I am also seeing this "at risk" condition since the update, however I also started getting "your pc is not protected from intrusion" messages every time I shut down 3 different pc's, all running Vista 32bit Home Premium SP1. All I have to do is click "Fix" and the interface comes up green "protected" again, however the "at risk" condition in "Network Map" remains.  All user accounts are Administrator-level, User Account Control turned off.

Could the two conditions be related, since they seem to have appeared at the same time?

I've also started getting a red x on start up with the same 'your pc is not protected from intrusion'.For about 10 days since the update to version 2.0.3.9 I always got a green tick on start up.I still have the 'at risk' x in the network map window. It does seem like another effect of version 2.0.3.9

I just tried rebooting and this time I get a green tick on start up so it's not happening everytime

I am running Vista with SP1

Hell Daveyboy222,

The Network Map "At Risk" condition does appear to be directly related to the 2.3.0.9 update and is in work. As of right now, there is no indication that this status alert is reporting an actual "at risk" condition.

The problem you mention at shut down is not one I've heard of before. If I understand correctly, you are encountering this message at shut down only (Vista SP1). Are you getting any errors reported (like ccSVChst hanging the shut down, etc.)? I'm confused about how this error manifests; if it occurs during shut down, are you halting the shut down to use the "Fix" option?

Thanks,

Matt

I have just registered to post that I too am seeing this "At Risk" symbol for my own pc in "My Network" section of Norton 360 v2.

All other areas of my pc show as green/protected, I have made no changes to anything, installed no other security type applications and I am quite certain my pc is clean.

I have 5 devices showing in "My Network", my own pc, which is wired to the router ,3 wireless pc's and 1 PS3.

The router shows as "wired network, secure"

My Pc shows as At Risk, previous to Sunday gone this had always been green/secure

The other pc's when online show no security status as I have not set up "remote monitoring", however, I have them set to shared.

The PS3 is set as "restricted" as this is one of my sons friends and I don't allow him access to any pc's should he try ;)

Yesterday I had a technician from Symantec support use remote help and they did infact fix the problem, and my pc returned back to the Normal green "secure" status in My Network.

The analyst, as they are called, made two changes in "services" and set two services to "auto" which had previously been set to "manual".

Manual had been the default as I had not changed this? (Services were Com Host and a symantec one, sorry can't remember which one, but I hope he knew what he was doing making those changes??)

He/she, also then checked through a few things which I had already done myself, but then did a "Let Me Choose" scan and scanned Temp files, Windows Temp files, explorer history, browser check and network address check.

I had already checked browser and network address but this had made no difference for me.

Upon clicking "Refresh" in the My Network section, the At Risk cross had gone ........... today after booting up the PROBLEM IS BACK  :smileysad:

I am glad to see that this appears to be a problem caused by an update and not something wrong with my pc ....... I do hope this is fixed ASAP !!!

Hi liverbird,

Please dont do anything and change back what the "analyst" has been doing. When you read the whole thread you will see that Symantec is aware of the problem and when your overall protection says you are safe (green) you are running at no risk.

It is a pity that Symantec "analysts" dont seem to be aware of whats going on. Well what you must do is wait for Symantec's next patch or update. You seem not to run in any real safety probs in the meantime.

Note for Symantec : would it not be nice when the "analysts" will be aware of whats going on and dont do things to peoples systems that we all know wont work.

Hi Grumpster,

thanks for your reply, I have left the services that were changed.

The analyst did at first begin to type in regedit into the vista search at which I was about to end the session ! :smileysurprised:

However, he/she did then erase this and typed services instead.

Like you said, why are they not made aware of a problem that appears to be fairly widespread and then they can just inform the user that Symantec are aware of this and currently working on a solution.

It would have saved my time, the analysts and that of others waiting in the queue for help, not to mention the analyst has gone away thinking he has cured my problem and i'm praising him to the hilt for it ! :smileyvery-happy:

Liverbird

Hi Grumpster,

You are quite right. I will have the documentation updated and alert the contact centers.

Thanks,

Matt

Hello Liverbird,

Thank you for the feedback and sharing your experience. I think this is an area where Support can make some improvements. I'm having the documentation updated and the agents alerted.

Thanks again,

Matt

Hello Matt/Grumpster :smileyhappy:

Quick update on my situation;

Ran Live update just a couple of minutes ago and had an update of some sort installed (not virus definitions though as the date for these has not changed from yesterday 11/6/08) ....

anyway, upon checking the At Risk issue before running live update ..... it was still showing in red "At Risk", after the update it has changed to green/secure.

I do hope it stays that way ...... maybe a fix was released ??
