Hi dianemozart,
Could it be that you ran out of backup space? What were the settings for the backup jobs you created? There are many details that go into a backup job, so please be as thorough as possible in explaining the job. Thanks!
The backup device is not full - this was checked and doublechecked. The settings are for a nightly incremental backup with the automatic setting for deleting previous backups set to on. I don't know what other settings you might be interested in but they're the same as every Norton Ghost installation on XP I've done including my own machine and they all run perfectly in XP. It seems that Symantec did manage to get one of the machine's daily backups to run but the owner is not sure what was done. Still remaining is one Vista machine where the nightly backups do NOT run and the Symantec tech said they should work. I'll be happy to provide whatever additional information you might need. My feeling is that something about Vista somehow interferes with Ghost's ability to run. As I mentioned in my first post, I issued a command to prevent the machine from hibernating and turned off all references to sleep but perhaps I missed something. Help is welcome.
Thanks.
Diane,
Ghost reports all warnings and errors to the Windows Event log. Could you look at the application event logs and check for any warnings/errors from Ghost, Ghost Service, V2i, Volume Shadow Copy Service, etc? What was the command you performed to turn off sleep? Did you go through Control Panel > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings? Have you run LiveUpdate in Ghost till there are no more updates?
I have the same problem E1AD3212 with Norton Save and Restore and XP - Home (SP2) using a C;\ drive and a USB 500gb Disk. (Does not matter if the USB drive is turned on or not). The program ran fine for about four months and then suddenly stopped with the dreaded E1AD3212. The Recovery program will still run as will everyother program that accesses disks. I have no network outside my connection to my broadband router. As I have complete authority over my machine the message E1AD3212 is at best incorrect. It also hides the real problem.
The Start VProConsole.exe ---- log.txt has the following lines in it
0.09 0.05 0.05 MainForm.InitBetaComments exception: Unable to load DLL 'bclib.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

SAve and Restore log.txt gave the following
26/06/2008 11:52:09 High Priority Warning: Error EC8F1772: The following component is not installed correctly: HistoryWatcher. 0x80004005 (Norton Save & Restore)
26/06/2008 11:52:17 Medium Priority Notice: Info 6C8F0427: Norton Save and Restore service started successfully. 0x00 (Norton Save & Restore)
Having no working backup and restore is a worry.... Peter_M
When's the last restore that you have successful? Did you add any hardware/software around the time this stopped working? Do you have anything encrypted?
The Backup ran successfully from 07-31-2007 until 02-08-2008, then it gave the E1AD3212 message.
I have never needed the recovery program but it still starts. The VProRecovery Storage.ini on the backup
L:\ USB attached disk showed entries for Disks D:\, G:\, L:\ and M:\ but only the USB drive is on L:\ exists.
I made some changes about the time the problem started.
1. There was a major update to the Norton program (about 45mb)
2. I added sharing to my Brother printer, I use USB but we added Ethernet access to my router.
3. I installed a new computer with router ethernet connection for my wife and gave her ethernet
access to the Brother laser printer.
Meanwhile I have been backing up my important files with a simple disk copy.
Coul not get the Symantec chat option to work which is why I am using this message board.
Thanks Peter_M
It looks like a bit has been switched somehow. Have you tried performing an uninstall/reinstall? I'd recommend using the Norton Removal Tool. You can download this from http://norton.com/nrt.
