Mine worked - where did yours break down? NIS2007 vanished after a required system restart during the upgrade, but the installer went on to do NIS2008.

But I still had 300 days to go on my NIS2007 subscription, and found no way of re-entering the product key when upgrading, so I had to buy a new subscription. So as far as I can see the upgrade is not in fact free to existing subscribers.

My NIS2007 quick and full scan both changed a few days ago from scanning 7000 files in thecommonly infected areas bit, to scanning 11 files.

I can't believe Norton have deliberately broken this in order to push customers into buying NIS2008 - I would have thought the PR and possibly legal consequences would be seriously bad.

May be a problem with compressed files? See Michael York's (Norton Authorised Support Team) answer here.

I did the "newnis" and now my Norton is completely gone.  Kaputz.  Nowhere to be found.  Wish me luck.

With "newnis" (currently Norton Internet Security 15.5 available at http://www.symantec.com/newnis), when installed, it will remove the previous Norton Internet Security 15.0 product, but keep your licensing information and apply it automatically to the FREE 15.5 update.

However, in order to help you resolve this issue, we will need a bit more information about the steps you took to get where you are currently.

If you downloaded the newnis, launched the download, and the files decompressed and then nothing happened at all, you may want to clean out your TEMP files before downloading "newnis" again, as MEBWoods suggests. The instructions on the linked message are very helpful to complete this process.

If that's not what happened, we'll need to know a few more things:

1) Which product did you have installed before, and which version?

2) Did you have a valid subscription to Norton Internet Security at the time? Approximately how much time was remaining?

3) Were you able to get NIS 15.5 to install? What exactly is the problem?

4) Are you able to retrieve your subscription activation key on http://www.mynortonaccount.com, so you can attempt to reinstall NIS 15.5?

It may also be a good idea to contact our Customer Support team by visiting the below site:

The Chat tool will allow the technician to access your system directly to troubleshoot the problem. Thanks!

When installing the update at http://www.symantec.com/newnis, the subscription for your NIS 2007 should remain on the system and be "picked up" by NIS 2008. Did you clean off your system completely before installing the free update to NIS 2008?

If you'd like that time back, I would recommend contacting our customer support team:

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/selectproduct_ts.jsp

They can access your subscription information and get you the time back that you thought was lost. Thanks!

Thank you for your help with this.
