I have just received by mail the NIS 2009 CD which I purchased online from Symantec for my Win XP SP3 IE6 computer. I preferred a disc to a download because I felt it would be a more permanent source if I needed to reinstall etc. I haven’t installed it yet and at the moment have NIS 2004 fully updated. I am reading about the new v.16.5 update which when I install NIS 2009 I would prefer as a patch automatically with the regular Live Update rather than a full program download otherwise it seems pointless buying the CD. I have no idea which version I have on the CD (nothing to let me know written on disc or package) and it seems this patch is not yet available for some countries (I am UK) as it is being distributed in a controlled manner. I am no expert but this patch seems to affect the “engine” from what I read. My question is – can I install my NIS 2009 from CD if this 16.5 patch is not yet available for UK and still get up to date virus and security protection through Live Update whilst waiting for it or should I not install until availability through Live Update is announced conclusively?
