How does this work? The one time I was home when my daughter's time was up it only gave her the option to have a parent log in with the password to extend her time. I was under the impression that the program would send a message to me (through email or text) requesting more time. How does that work?
Hi dlearyous,
I tested it and received an email notification when the time for a monitored kid is up. Please make sure you have the latest version of Safety Minder Version 2.0.0.XX on the PC (You can determine this by right clicking on the Norton Safety Minder icon in the System tray and selecting About Norton Safety Minder). If you don't have the version, please download the latest Norton Safety Minder online.
If you still experience these issues, please let us know.
Thanks,
Katie
Yes, I have the latest version. It was just updated last weekend.
My email is a hotmail account and I have even looked in the junk folder, nothing there either.
All the boxes are checked under the notification settings for Safety Minder.
Hi dlearyous,
Thanks for the update. What does your kid do next after receiving the message as shown below? Have you ever received the notification before?
If they click 'ok' it locks the computer. If they click on 'I need more time' it asks for the parent to put in their user name and password. That doesn't help unless the parent is standing over them and can input it before the timer gets to zero.
Yesterday I recieved my first notification after the kids had reached their time limit 5 other times without any notification. Progress!
I noticed that one child has 'Count only the amount of time 'child' actively uses the computer' checked until time limits and the other child has 'Count the total amount of time 'child' is logged onto the computer' checked. The latter is the one I received the notification on. The former I have never received a notification on. Why?
Hi dlearyous,
For the kid with the option "'Count only the amount of time 'child' actively uses the computer' checked until time limits",
1. Has the kid ever reached his/her time limit?
2. What option does the kid have for "What to do when XXX's computer time limit has been reached" at Settings -> Time?
Also, you mentioned "unless the parent is standing over them and can input it before the timer gets to zero". That's not exactly how the program works. You don't have to do it before the timer goes to zero. After the kid gets warnings three times, the program will show the screen where allows the parent to extend the allowed time.
Thanks,
Katie
For the kid with the option "'Count only the amount of time 'child' actively uses the computer' checked until time limits",
1. Has the kid ever reached his/her time limit? Yes, this is the one that asks for the parent to input their user name and password to extend the time for the child.
2. What option does the kid have for "What to do when XXX's computer time limit has been reached" at Settings -> Time? Automatically lock 'child's' computer.
Also, you mentioned "unless the parent is standing over them and can input it before the timer gets to zero". That's not exactly how the program works. You don't have to do it before the timer goes to zero. After the kid gets warnings three times, the program will show the screen where allows the parent to extend the allowed time. No, on ours the very first warning started the count down and locked the computer if she didn't choose to have the parent input their username and password.
Now we are having problems with the Norton Safety Minder turning itself off, yet it is still tracking activity but not locking the computer when the time limit has been reached.
Hi dlearyous,
Thanks for the update. We'll try to reproduce it with the information you provided here.
Thanks,
Katie
