Recover Identity Safe from backup

Hello.

I recently recovered my system from a hard drive failure.  Its W7 and is running Norton Security Suite from Comcast.  I have not been able to determine where the datafile is for my Identity Safe Passwords (which of course I never exported :-)).  I have a myriad of backups so am confident that if the file exists, I have a copy somewhere.  I tried the procedure listed in this post:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Norton-360-Identity-Safe-File/m-p/380336

but was not able to locate the file:  identitySafeDataStore mentioned in it.

Can someone help me?

Thanks

Hello wrouffa and welcome!

I am sorry to hear of your problem.

What type of backups did you make?  If the backups were only saving documents, pictures, etc, you may not have the data as it should have been stored in C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-....}\N360_5...\IdentitySafeDataStore\S-1-5-21-....

If your backup plan did not include this path, then you may not have the data.

Be sure when searching your backup that you have the Folder Options set to "Show hidden files and folders".

Let us know how you do.

Thanks!

Hi:

I found the file in my backups but am unable to copy it to the destination folder on my hard drive.  It says destination folder access denied and that I need permission to copy to the folder.  I have all administrative rights so I'm confused as to how to proceed.

Thanks

If you right click on the drive icon C: for example and open the security tab and make sure that ALL permissions are granted for each user.

This is the frustrating thing.  I am the only user on the PC and I am of course the administrator.  But for some reason I can do anything with the identity safe folder ... Wont let me move files in, delete files that are there or even make an empty folder ...

Peanut gallery here:

You mentioned doing a restore. Did you do a reinstall of your NSS also? Restore usually messup the dates on the various parts of the program so that it cannot reconnect itself properly. I realize that this is NSS and not 360 but I suspect the part scrambling will be the same regardless of the current title :smileysad:

Well, as my children would say, I am a doofus:smileyvery-happy:

I failed to read the instructions completely from the post I referenced at the start and never put the PC into safe mode.  Hence the trouble replacing the files.  I have completed the recovery successfully and want to ay thanks to all involved

I followed Phil_D's instructions in http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/identity-safe/m-p/394572#M41032 and was able to copy my Identity Safe contents to Norton360 v.6.0.1 in my recently installed Windows 7.  A million thanks Phil, cause I thought I had lost the data since I did not take any steps to preserve the Identity Safe before the upgrade, but a backup of my Program Files allowed me to find the file I needed.  My problem now is that I can't open the Identity Safe using the password I had used previously.  If I set a new password, it will overwrite the contents that I just copied to it.  Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
