I needed to change out and upgrade some drives in a Dell PowerEdge 2650 server running the Dell PERC 3/di RAID controller.
When I saved the image from the boot drive (drive 0) the RAID was not configured yet, so the system only used one drive as the OS boot drive. I booted the Ghost 15 CD, and saved the drive image, which became C, to an external drive, to save the OS. The original Windows install CD is damaged.
I now have 5 SCSI drives configured for RAID 5 in containeer 00, which should allow me to boot from the container.
When I boot the Ghost CD and select Recover My Computer, I find the V2i image file no problem. I checked the 4 boxes; Check drive for errors, Set drive for active boot, Restore original signature, Restore Master Boot Record. When I select next, I get an error message:
EC950006 - Destination not valid.
EC950015 - The V2i file source drive and the destination drive cannot be the same.
I expected some kind of conflict, because the restore source drive letter is C. I think Ghost sees the destination RAID as C. Not sure what to do about the drive letters. The destination has the new configured container for RAID 5, all drives appear as one logical drive. I can manage the container and change the boot selection back to boot from drive 0, instead of the container.
Any and all comments, especially experience with RAID 5, are appreciated.
