Recovering Identity Safe Passwords without Backup

I thought I would post this because it was such a HUGE help to me.

My motherboard on my previous computer died so I was encouraged to buy a new PC.  Harddrive from old PC was still good thankfully.  Old PC (XP Pro SP2) used NIS 2010.  Norton Chat helped me to install NIS 2011 (free upgrade, woohoo!) on my new PC (Windows 7 Home Prem).  Unfortunately, new install of NIS 2011 didn't come with my Identity Safe passwords from old PC.  Since I didn't backup my passwords in NIS 2010 (didn't know I could or had to), I couldn't easily move my passwords to NIS 2011 on new PC.

This link represents the solution as described by poster 'Thalir'.  One change I would offer to this solution which would replace steps 1 and 2 in this solution:  Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (google how to do this... F8 key should help).  In safe mode, you should have no problems (access denied or permission problems) moving files as described by Thalir.  Once files are moved, reboot as you normally would and passwords should now be available for use in NIS 2011.

I hope this solution helps save you time and effort and is successful for you!

Cheers,

Joe
