Recovery Disk Hangs at Start / Red Hat Issue

I created a new recovery disk. It works well on 3 of 4 computers. It hangs when booting on my 4th PC, which has a 8th gen Intel i7-8700 CPU. I get an error "detected CPU family 6 model 158 Warning: Intel CPU model - this hardware has not undergone testing by Red Hat and might not be certified. Please consult https://hardware.redhat.com for certified hardware. BUG: software lockup - CPU#1 stock for 64s! [swapper:1]

Any suggestions??

Pat

Thanks

Hi Pat,

I have informed the team. However, this is not a trivial update and will take some time.
I have no estimate currently when this might get addressed.

Let me know how else I might be able to help.

The joys of bleeding edge tech.  wink

Thanks

I have forwarded this issue to another Norton contact that may be directly involved with this product.

Stay tuned.

Support had no clue!  They didn't know what I was talking about beyond sending me an email re how to create a recovery disk. They could not identify who created the recovery ISO. I sent a message to Gayathri_R, but have not received a reply

Your best bet may be a chat with support here: http://norton.com/chat

Having looked at this thread the new tool is indeed created on Linux code. Windows OS is supported. Allow me to pass this error on to the Admin who posted the announcement in the thread to see if the development team can assist. One thing you may want to try in the mean time is to boot the recovery disc with the BIOS set to legacy. @Gayathri_R

Cheers

Windows 10, 64 bit.  It is not a Windows issue. I am trying to boot the computer using the recovery DVD which, I believe, uses LINUX. Windows does not come into play.

Windows 10, 8, 7 etc? 32 bit or 64?

Cheers

It is created for Windows

The title of the tread was;

Recovery Disk Hangs at Start / Red Hat Issue

Thanks for clearing that up lol. This was what I based my suggestion on. What OS is the recovery disk created for?

I am not installing Red Hat.  When Norton built the Recovery Disk ISO in apparently used a version of LINUX that is not compatible with the newest CPUs

Pat

Hello Pat What version RedHat are you attempting to install? Your link opens a dead URL as well. I'm not a Linux expert. This MAY be of some assistance. Disable hyper-threading if enabled in your BIOS. https://access.redhat.com/discussions/480953
