I've had the same problem. Had six calls to Symantec and after the last one, it seemed to work (I left a similar msg in the thread about 5%). Running XP SP3. However, this morning, the thing stuck at 1% and of course, I couldn't kill it, so I rebooted. I ran fixinstall.bat (found that suggestion on the thread about stuck at 5%); Ghost 14 is back up and running but I have no initiated a backup yet, since I'm tired of rebooting. The Symantec agents are very nice but really the whole process is a royal pain.
Is there a fix for this? Because otherwise, I'll have to deinstall it and get someone else's backup program.

I also posted on another thread about hanging at 5%. One of the people who replied there mentioned that he had an invalid drive letter. I did as well. I had an external drive K: and when I added an external DVD drive, K: became L:, but not in Ghost. There it was still K: and even though I didn’t use it any longer for backup, it was still known to Ghost. I don’t know why this should cause Ghost to hang, but it did. The Symantec agent found that and ran diskmgmt (from Start->Run) and deleted the invalid drive letter (you can see this in the GUI). Ghost immediately ran perfectly after that. ODDLY, today, that invalid drive letter has returned and Ghost again hangs at 1%. When I get back home, I’m going to run Diskmgmt again and remove it. You should try it too.
Running Ghost version 14.0.3.28361 under XP SP2. I have a rogue recovery point job running -- it's stuck at 1%. I can't kill it via the "Progress & Performance" window (it shows it's in the canceling state, but it never does cancel). Support told me to delete the backup job, but I can't do that while the backup job is running. Ghost won't let me stop the backup job. Nor can I figure out a way to exit Ghost from within the program. And I can't figure out which processes belong to Ghost so I can kill it from the Windows Task Manager.
The blasted thing survives reboots, so I can't kill it that way.
And, no, I'm not willing to run chkdsk until this thing is dead.
Could someone tell me processes I should expect to see in the Task Manager for Ghost so that I might terminate them with extreme prejudice?
If not, my next step will be to remove Ghost from the startup programs, take the machine down to safe mode, remove Ghost, and install a competitor's backup program.
Thanks.
Definitely strange that your drive letter is changing. I don't think Ghost updates drive letters if they change. I'll check into this though.
Thanks for looking into it. When I’m back home, I’ll run Diskmngr and get rid of it, but I saw the drive this morning in Ghost, although it was not in use (supposedly).
Quick thing to try. When you see the drive letter change and then go into your backup settings and see it using the old drive letter, could you try hitting F5 to see if it refreshes and updates to using the new drive letter? Apologies for the run-on.
Just checked; sadly the drive letters are OK. So, I just started it right now (6:28PM EST). It's initializing and Calculating remaining time.
I ran fixinstall.bat (which I read about on another thread). Perhaps that will work....
One thing would be nice: a switch that would allow verbose comments so we wouldn't have to be playing guessing games.
Something is very much admiss with this app. The taskbar icon reports that progress is at 1%. HOWEVER, the Progress and Performance view says nothing is happening. And the entire app has hung.
Nothing runs right with this app.
I’ve rebooted several times; checked the drives (all OK). Ghost is stuck at 1%. This is where it was when I spoke with the reps. I have the trouble ticket number if you want it.
Yes. Please send that to me via a private message. How much free space do you have on the destination drive?
Note: I have almost 1/2 tB free space on the backup destination. I forgot to delete the schedule so, of course, Ghost started up today and of course, it's at 1%. And, of course, I can't even kill it or stop it. Of course, when the Ghost Manager comes up, I tried to stop it but of course, the Ghost manager (the GUI) is only partially refreshed (it's been that way for hours). I have reinstalled Ghost once already.
In case someone at Norton actually wants to help, here's the trouble ticket number: 081120-000780
I've had five reps already on my machine. What's next?
And I think I did send a private message to you; did you respond?

The main Ghost service is VProSvc. VProTray is the item for the tray icon.
