I have a red warning icon showing on top of my Norton Security Center icon in my Windows System Tray. When I click through and open the Norton Security Center, it shows me a warning in the top right of the window: “Attention” and it presents me with a ‘FIX NOW’ button to push. I have tried this several times and all it does is take me to the Symantec web site to renew my subscription; it DOES NOT, get rid of the red warning icon. This is not a security warning, it is obnoxious marketing. I paid for this product and I don’t need to be marketed to on my own computer. Symantec shouldn’t assume that all of their users are housewives or secretaries. How do I get rid of the red warning icon?

It's not a problem with the housewives and secretaries, but with Symantec assuming that because they have automatic entry onto users desktops, they can abuse this to push their subscription renewals. One warning, once, or maybe every five days to expiration might be acceptable as a reasonable caution to the user that their subscription is nearing expiration, but to frame it as a serious security issue is an abuse of their access, in my opinion. Is there any way to turn this off?
There is no way to turn off the red icon unless you renew your subscription.
I assume that your subscription is expiring within the next 30 days. If you decide to renew now, the remaining days left on your current subscription will NOT be lost, but rather increased by 365 days. If you choose this route, your new days will then be something to the effect of "395 Days Left" depending upon your particular remaining days.
Developers have a difficult task writing programs that will be used by a wide variety of people and must consider those who are not "computer savvy". So, even though a warning every five days might work for you, others may need more reminding.
Also, I have no problem with framing an expiring subscription as a security issue, because if unattended, that is what it becomes.

I provided answers to your questions in an honest effort to assist in your concerns. However, if you chose to use them as bait to post a sarcastic message, then so be it.
Nice touch giving your own "post" the solution - speaks volumes.
It is not a marketing program, but rather a warning that your subscription may be expiring soon or that your subscription may not have been properly recognized. It takes you to the subscription page for ease of renewal, rather than one having to manually locate the page.
In the Main Norton Protection Center Window your remaining days of subscription should be clearly indicated. If that number does not agree with your records, please post back here as there is a fix for this.
So, what's wrong with housewives and secretaries?
