Hi, i have the latest version of NIS 20.2.0.19, i did not make any changes nor did i turn off anything but for the last 2 days i keep getting a Red X covering the norton icon on the system tray, i ran update did a scan and will not go away. I also have Windows 7 Home Premium How do i fix this? Thanks Jon

Does the red X only appear during startup or is it continual? You may want to try changing Boot Time Protection to Aggressive and see if that helps. The setting is found under Settings > Computer > Real Time Protection > Enable Boot Time Protection.

Seems to only happen at startup on every other time i turn on my computer usually will go away if i reboot but shouldnt have to reboot nor should i be getting this problem happen since the new version..

And it seem to have fix the red x for now...

Glad to hear. If the boot time protection is turned off the red x will appear until Norton switches on. So normally enabling boot time protection will fix this problem.

I've encountered the same problem with th red x - like the threadstarter I didn't made any changes or anything else. I've tried your tip, too, but from another side:
I've had the setting "Agggressive" at Boot time protection before it happened with the red x. Now I've changed it to "normal" and it's green again.
Very glad, that I didn't had to reinstall...
But I would like to hear, WHY Norton has such a "bug"...and why does it come without any signs? Can anybody tell me, how could this happen? I'm waiting sooo long now for the localized version from the new 2013 update as well....no changes since october :/ NIS 2013 for german customers is still buggy now, because it's outdated, as long, as we didn't get the new patch.
