Reduce the number of Norton Family email notifications?

I currently have Norton Family (Free) installed on two Windows 10 computers for two kids. I'm thinking about paying for the premium subscription, but Norton Family needs to prove itself first.

We get far too many email notifications from our children, sometimes up to 10 per day, with subjects like:

* Norton Family Notification : Browser Plugin Disabled
* Norton Family Notification : Time Restriction Reached
* Norton Family Notification : PIN has been used to unlock

I'd like to reduce the frequency of some of these emails. Where can I tune this setting? I've looked all over https://family.norton.com and https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/norton-family/ and I cannot figure out how to do this. I must be missing something.

I'd like to receive some of these so that I can figure out *why* they needed to do X, but that's the next step.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for the feedback.  I'll forward this to the team as well.

Thanks,

Katie

I second this request. Not only am I inundated by notifications, but I get multiple notifications for the same thing over a matter of minutes. For instance, I have three notifications that one of my kids "signed in during curfew hours", each sent one minute apart.  Not only am I getting over-notified, but I'm already aware of the situation, as I'm the one who unlocked the computer!

I've attached a screenshot of another instance of over-notification. At least eight notifications over a period of a few minutes, for the same thing. same child.

Yes, enabling the Norton plugin manually in Firefox will help reduce the notifications, unless this is disabled by the child for any reason. We are also working on a issue where we will automatically enable the plugin (if we notice it is disabled) when Firefox is restarted. This is already available for Chrome and IE, but not Firefox. This will be addressed in our next update.

Sure, I do this regularly. The Norton Family says 'Enabled" each time.

We are using Firefox, the latest version.

I logged into my kids computer, opened Firefox, went to about:addons and noticed that the Norton plugin was disabled. I manually enabled it by hitting the "Enable" button. Let's see if that helps to reduce the "Browser plugin disabled" notifications.

Thanks,

Sorry, it's not possible to turn off email notifications for specific alerts.

To validate that Norton Family is working correctly on your PC - there's a Norton Family icon in the lower right corner (in the taskbar). When you hover your mouse around this icon, you will see "Norton Family - Enabled".

Regarding email alerts related to browser plugins, can you share which browser you are using?

Thanks for that response surganes. Is it possible to turn off emails for certain categories? I really don't need emails about "Time Restriction Reached" every time they reach their time restriction.

I could use Norton's help to determine if Norton Family is working correctly on my computer. How can I proceed?

In particular, I'm confused why we keep getting alerts like "Browser Plugin Disabled". I just received one of these alerts, but my children signed of over 90 minutes ago.

At present, Norton Family doesn't provide a way to customize the frequency of such emails. Please note that some/most of these are triggered by specific user behavior (for example: "PIN has been used to unlock") and/or based on alerts that doesn't meet the house rules set by the parent. If you are receiving more than you anticipate, we'll be more than happy to see if there's anything abnormal happening with the account. Thanks.

Hi Gigglesworth,

Thanks for the valuable suggestions.  I'll report this to the team for further investigation.

Thanks
