I had to reinstall Norton 360 a couple of weeks ago and gave all required permissions. I also signed in. The next day I received a popup telling me to register the product and the only way to get rid of it was to click the fix button and after doing so, it opened the dashboard but it did nothing else.
I continued to see this 'register your product' pop-up at the same time of day for the next few days and so a few days later I contacted the call centre to see if I had given all required permissions. As expected, they followed the script and told me to do what I had previously done - uninstall and reinstall - but I refused and when I could get them to deviate from the script and do as I had initially asked, it turned out that the instal had not given full disc access to two com.symantec Helpers despite me giving every required permission, which had included the activation permission. It had given full disc access to Norton 360. I was told to give permission for full disc access to those two Helpers.
I recall that during the instal it said that the product was activated which was confirmed when I saw the window asking me if I wanted to protect another device so I asked the operative if the product had been protecting me despite the daily appearance of the 'register the product' pop-up and I was repeatedly told that I had been protected. I had been, and still are, successfully receiving updates both on switch-on and every two hours. Also the scans have been running correctly.
In the last hour, this pop-up re-appeared and after I clicked it again took me to the dashboard but this time it told me to sign in to my account and after doing so it connected to Norton and I was told that the product had been activated, just like it had done during the initial re-instal.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated as I'd like to know why I have been receiving this 'register your product' pop-up despite me being signed in and being told during the install that the product had been activated, and also if the product has been protecting me this fortnight despite it, apparently, being not registered.
And finally, what is the difference between product activation and product registration?
