Registry Cleanup Error in Norton 360

Allen,

Same problem........

Running Version: 4.2.0.12

I can make a restore point manually.

I had version 2.0 origianlly, uninstalled it, installed version 3 which then downloaded vesion 4.

I have no other AV software. I have NOT been able to run the registry cleaner since I installed the new version.

I also have not been able to run windows update since the install, I get error code 80072efe. Have tried the fixes MS recommends, no luck.

There is an annoying popup/adware that 360 has not caught yet. Everything else in 360 appears to be working fine.

Thanx,

Milissa

Welcome to the Norton Community forums!!!

Can you please post a screenshot of the error message that you receive?

Did you try the solution in the following Knowledge Base article?

Norton 360 Version 4.0 scan results show "Error" next to Registry Cleanup

If that does not work, please disconnect the external drive, and then run Registry Cleanup.

If you still receive the error, then try:

1. Run Check Disk (chkdsk /f)
2. Fix the errors.
3. Restart the computer
4. Run Registry Cleanup.

Allen,

Knew I forgot something.........

Vista Premium, SP2, 32bit

When ie is running, every now and then a new ie window comes up, goes full screen, different website every time.

Problem started same day I installed N360P, so pre-existing.

Ran Malwarebytes twice, see attached logs. 2nd run says there is none, but Pop-up still happens, but not as often, OF course, it is not happening now, so I have no link as to where they go.

No, I still cannot run Registry Cleaner or MSUpdate. When I run updatre I get error code 80072EFE. Have already tried the fixes here, no luck

Have not done Norton 360 Version 4.0 scan results show "Error" next to Registry Cleanup as I cannot even run Registry Cleanup, am still working on Allen's fixes :-)

Milissa

Hi Milissa,

I noticed that the first scan of MalwareBytes did find some adware malware along with indication of a rogue anti-virus infection. It reported that they were successfully cleaned and the second scan did not show anything further.

However I don't want to leave this to chance so I would suggest opening a ticket with BleepingComputer. They are very good at this sort of thing. In the subject line please put Rogue.AntivirusSuite.Gen. Also please be sure to let them know that you ran MalwareBytes and that it reported a successful clean. I suspect they will also want to see both of your MalwareBytes scan logs.

My fixes on this were just for the MalwareBytes scan. If MalwareBytes found just the more minor adware that would most likely suffice but I am concerned due to the reference to Rogue.AntivirusSuite.Gen in the log.

Once BleepingComputer has done their magic, please come back and let us know. At that time if there are still problems with N360 and/or MS update we should be able to get that resolved.

The first step is to absolutely ensure that all traces of your malware is removed properly.

Thanks very much and please let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

Allen

P.S. One thing BleepingComputer is very strict about is that once you have asked for their assistance you are not allowed to get assistance from anywhere else or they will close your ticket. This is done to ensure that things are not made more complicated by you following conflicting advice from more than one person.

Allen,

Well that was more fun than it had to be ;-)

my ndis.dll was infected with tidserv!inf.

I ran the NRT and reinstalled N360P. Everything is kosher now including running Windows Update.

Thanx for you help and fast response :-)

Hi Milissa,

You are most welcome and thank you very much for the update. Did you end up going to BleepingComputer?

I'm happy that everything is now working good for you. :smileyhappy:

If you haven't already make sure and run Live Update on N360 to ensure you have the latest updates after reinstalling.

If you consider your problem solved please mark this thread solved by clicking the Accept as solution button on the post which you believe contained the solution. This will allow others to know the problem is solved and quickly get to the solution when they search the forums.
