registry fixes and defrags could be dangerous

I have been looking into registry backup and have been reading some of the posts in the windows forums on the topic.

Quite interestingly I have encountered some opposing views as to the wellbeing of using various repair/compress/defrag tools for the registry.

There seems to be on one hand the software labs who put out the tools with the claim this is important for performance versus some technical experts looking after corporate systems who claim the safest approach is to leave the registry alone.

The folk saying leave alone have suggested the risk of using registry tools is the possible corruption that is risked versus the need to repair missing keys etc and the compression. To me, this is a strong argument.

So I am hoping by bringing this debate to this forum, I might learn from the experience, knowledge and wisdom of people whom post in this forum.

Cheers,

Lyle.
