Reinstalling Norton toolbar 2012 for Chrome

Let me begin by sharing some relevant system information.

  • My OS is Vista.
  • I'm running Norton Internet security 2012 freshly reinstalled today.]
  • I am running Chrome 15.0.874.121 m

Earlier this week I began to experience frequent stability issues with the Norton chrome plug-in when surfing the web with the chrome browser.  I decided to remove the Norton plug-in assuming that it would be simple enough to re-download and install.  Apparently not!

Thus far been unable to locate any instructions for doing this.

Here is a list of the different ways I've tried to remedy the situation.

  • Uninstalled and then reinstalled Google Chrome.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Norton Internet Security 2012.
  • Run the live update feature multiple times to ensure that everything was up-to-date followed by my rebooting the computer.  This live update suggestion was provided by Nathan the virtual assistant.  You can see the bottom of this post for a copy and paste of our "conversation".
  • I've also searched the Chrome web store but there doesn't seem to be anything from Norton available there.
  • Lastly I've tried searching the forums for any guidance and while I have found some references to Chrome nothing seems to be directly related to the problem I'm experiencing.

I know that the Norton toolbar is installed and functioning correctly in both the Firefox and Internet Explorer Web browsers.  Whatever the issue is must be directly tied to Chrome and my removing the plug-in via the extensions page.

I've spent several hours trying to resolve this on my own now and I am both frustrated and out of ideas.

Can someone please help me with this?

Is there not a way to directly download this plug-in for chrome?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Below is a transcript of my conversation with virtual assistant Nathan.

You: chrome

Nathan: I found the following information which might help you resolve your issue:

- I can't find the Norton Toolbar in the newest version of my Internet browser

You: I can't find the Norton Toolbar in the newest version of my Internet browser

Nathan: Norton Internet Security 2012 and Norton 360 version 5.0 are now compatible with the newest version of Firefox and Internet Explorer. Google Chrome is currently only supported in Norton Internet Security 2012. If you have Norton Internet Security 2012 or Norton 360 5.0, run LiveUpdate until no more updates are available to get the compatability update for the Norton Toolbar. Once you have all available updates, restart your computer.

If you have an earlier version of Norton Internet Security or Norton 360, click here to go to the Norton Update Center to get the newest version of your Norton product for free.

Was this information helpful in solving your issue?

Update:

I thought I got lucky there for a second when I found this support page article tettiled - I cannot find Norton Toolbar on my Web browser. Unfortunetly chrome isnt even mentioned on the page.

Meh!

Welcome Furry,

Open chrome > click on the wrench > click on tools > click on extensions > click on get more extensions

Hope this helps

Furry, you will find the NIS Chrome extension in this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine\xx.x.x.xxxx\extensions

where the x's represent your NIS version number. Drag the chrome.crx file you find in that folder into a Chrome window (the Extensions tab would be best), Chrome should then prompt you to open it and install it.

Please tell me if that works, I'm on a dev version so I'm not sure this procedure would work in all release channels.
