Remote desktop connection (mstsc) from Mac to Windows (7,8,8.1,10) when using Norton 360 on the Windows platforms.

I'm trying to establish a remote desktop protocol (rdp) connection using rdp for Mac to other machines in the house. I can rdp from all the Windows platforms to each other. I tried using the rdp for mac and couldn't connect. I tried pinging each host from the other and no dice. I started troubleshooting down the networking path and after a while I figured I'd try killing the firewall... I returned the state of the network to it's original config and tested the connection. I was able to immediately able to connect. As a test I turned the firewall back on and couldn't connect again. I looked at the settings in Norton 360 and there is a rule to allow all rdp connections on all protocols... I turned the firewall back off and I could connect again. I'd like to know if there's some setting specifically for rdp for mac. Perhaps it's using a different network port? Here's the other strange thing... I can ping everything on my network from my mac except this one machine that has Norton 360 installed on it. I can also ping everything from the Windows 7 machine except the Mac. ( I think they're fighting over my love ;) ) I checked for silent mode on the Windows 7 machine and it's off. Any ideas?
