Removal Tool

I have just purchased a Windows 7, 64 bit pc with trial pre-installed Norton Internet Security Version 18.6.0.29. I have an existing valid account just now with another vendor and wish to Norton. However, when I go to your Removal Tool page for Security Systems I can not download the tool ... the page does not respond. Can you help please. Also should I first remove the programme in Control Panel/Programmes prior to running the tool?

Thanks for your help.

Here is a direct link to the Norton Removal Tool:

Run it after uninstalling the normal way.

Hello RonSH

You should remove the trial version first using the control panel method and then reboot. Then you can run the removal 2 times with a reboot after each run of it. That should completely remove the trial program from your computer. Thanks.

Thanks for your inputs ... even this Removal Tool does not download.

Could it be that first you must uninstall Norton before you can download the tool to clean up??

Hello RonSH

Is the trial version actually running now? Have you installed the security program for which you have an active license yet? No, we give the link for the Norton Removal Tool while the product is still installed. Is it possible that you have some malware on the computer? Can you access other security sites like Malwarebytes site? Thanks.

Hi RonSH,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

Are you able to download other programs or files from the Internet? Are you able to navigate to sites like:

security.symantec.com

mcaffee.com

?

Just like any other program you can download the Norton removal tool at any time. When you attempt to do so, are you getting some sort of error message? What exactly happens when you attempt to download it?

If you are running IE 9, be aware that the prompt to confirm download has changed. You need to look at the bottom of the IE browser for something which looks like the following:

ie9_dl_prompt.jpg

Click on Save > Save As.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Allen

Thanks for all your help but still no success in  downloading the Internet Security 2011 removal tool for my working trial.

If I go to eg Symantic Home Page and search for removal tools it does not list IS 2011 ... the latest listed is 2010? But there is a Removal Tool called Internet Security. Following this link  it say's 'remove using the Control Panel' but based on comments all over the web it is clear to me that this does not do a complete job and one is left with 'markers etc' ... whatever they are called. Then if it is not successful you are told to download a tool and whatever I try I can't download direct this way either. All that happens is it links to the page from 'Download', the page stays 'white' and the Windows circle keeps plodding around! There are no error messages.

I have run  MalwareBytes and all seems OK. and yes, I am aware of the IE9 download changes

I can negotiate any other pages and conduct all sorts of downloads.

Very frustrating ... any other clues?

Thanks all

... and a little later ...

I'm back ... yes, yes, yes! Job done!

Went to neighbours and 'borrowed his Norwegian set up pc, easily downloaded the Norton remove file to a USB, removed the trial Norton, ran the file, rebooted and it seems all OK. AT LAST!

Frankly I have no clue as to why the download tools would not download to me direct. Language settings of English that I use in Norway perhaps.

Thanks all for taking the time to help this ageing Aussie living in Norway. Might be back one day.

Ron

Hello RonSH

The trial of NIS you had on a computer bought in Norway most likely would have been in that language and was expecting a removal tool in that language. If we knew where you were located, we could have given you the correct file or pointed you to the location of where to find the Removal Tool in that language.

I'm glad though that you were able to get it removed. Thanks. We do hope that you will come back and try out Norton products.

Wish I had realised that 'location' was maybe an issue. Apologies for possibly causing unnecessary effort

The link should always be http://www.norton.com/symnrt. This will always get to the correct place. :smileywink:
