Remove ex wife's subscription from my existing 3 subscriptions

I have an unusual question that I have seen similar answers to but nothing directly that will assist me...

I currently have 3 active subscriptions to NIS 2010 and need to remove one of them; my ex wife's.  How can I have that subscription removed (she lives hours away in another city) thereby being able to use that subscription for another of my computers?  Are there ways to be able to remove her subscription remotely (meaning disassociate her computer's IP address or something like that?)

Thanks,

"Skeeter"

Hi Skeeter,

Welcome to the Norton Community. There is no way for you to do this remotely yourself.

Normally you would uninstall NIS from the computer you no longer wish to have associated with your account (while connected to the Internet) but if you are not able to get your ex-wife to do this you may be stuck with letting the current subscription run its course.

I can only suggest that you contact Customer Service and see if there is anything they can do.

BTW, you are entitled to a free update to NIS 2011 as long as your subscription is current.

You can download NIS 2011 from here and save to your desktop. Please note that this is the English version so let us know if you need a different language. Provided that everything is working properly you can install NIS 2011 over the top of NIS 2010.

As a precaution you can retrieve your product key from your Norton Account. Also as a precaution you should back up your Identity Safe (if used) by following the procedure here.

Install NIS 2011 and then restart your computer. Run Live Update repeatedly (rebooting as requested) until it reports there are no more updates.

NIS 2011 should automatically pick up your current product key.

Hope this helps and please let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

Allen

I just updated my version to 2011 from it's older version (free) as you suggested; thanks for the info regarding my question and the reminder to upgrade. I'll be sending her an email to tell her that she also got NIS subscription for Christmas from me:smileyvery-happy:  Your response was FAST- much appreciated.

Happy New Year to all forum users and supporters,

Hi Skeeter,

You are most welcome. :smileyhappy:

Happy New Year.

Skeeter,

I would only add to what Allen has jsut said that for your wife to be using one of yoour licences she would have to be able to access your MyNortonAccount from her PC and this would mean she has a record of your login ID and password.

I suspect that Customer Support may be able to deal with this if you open a new MyNortonAccount with a different log in and password and have Customer Support transfer the licence to that account and I'm sue they havea the ability to cancel a licence since we know that they do this for counterfeit copies.

Or they may just cancel the key and give you a new one. But I'm sure they can help.

I presume you would arrange for your wife to remove her copy and install her own to ensure continued protection since her's would stop working, although I don't know if it would stop immediately or not.

I strongly recommend CHAT from the feedback we get from users dealing with subscription problems.

The link Allen gave you is the general link to Support for a range of problems. You may find it easier to go here:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton/support/contact/chat/norton-chat.jsp?chatexp=cs&dept=cs&pvid=&pid=cs

which is the page to register and begin using CHAT. Phone and email are available but wait times can be hours apparently or take days to answer.

Pleae let us know how you get on.

I hope that helps.
