Remove Norton PC Checkup

I have a Toshiba Sattelite P755 running Windows 7. Norton PC Checkup is installed on it, and I would like to remove it. I've done this before (I remember it was quite a pain) and cannot remember how. Pretty sure I got this with a Shockwave installer, despite trying to be very careful to NOT install it.

What I've tried so far:

1.) Just deleting it's folder. Says it's open in another program. There is a service showing up for it in my task manager with no associated process.

2.) Tried to uninstall it through the control panel. Does not show up as an installed program.

3.) Norton Removal Tool does not remove it.

So, anyone have any suggestions that aren't one of those three things?

Also, can anyone give me any suggestions for not letting Norton install this thing on my computer ever again? I'm getting tired of removing it every time it comes bundled with some other software...

As I stated, I already tried the Norton Removal Tool. It did not work.

I also have no interest in adding any additional Norton programs to my computer. I don't care for Norton and it's a pain to get rid of entirely. The more I can keep it off my computer the better, as far as I'm concerned.

I read your message but I did not see where you had used the NRT before trying to uninstall/delete the program by other means. The fact that it doesn't work now means that the landmarks it uses to find and delete all of the program are missing. This is why the suggestion to reinstall and then run NRT.
Keep us posted

I'll try that then, I guess. I have not tried any other removal methods other than what was listed in my first post, and since the first two did absolutely nothing at all then the "landmarks" that NRT uses to find it should still be intact...

Although, given how virus-like this program seems to be, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Kaspersky thought it was a virus and already tried (and failed) to remove it, destroying the "landmarks" in the process XD

Tried to download and install PC Checkup, got this message:

If the installer can detect that PC Checkup is installed, why can't NRT detect and remove it?

I don't recall ever seeing it on the list of programs that the NRT removes.

But I could be wrong, I have only needed the NRT tool once in the last 4 years.

I did however just install pc checkup on a test system and in addition to it having an entry in the add-remove program list there is also an uninstaller in the start menu program folder.

Try looking through the start > program menu

Dave

Going through Start > All Programs > Norton PC Checkup and using the uninstall found there worked. Never thought to check that.

I don't have any screenshots, but it honestly did not show up in the list of installed programs in the control panel. I checked for "Norton PC Checkup" and just "PC Checkup" and it wasn't there. How odd.

Anyways, I'm just glad that I've got this useless piece of software removed from my system (again). Thanks for the help.
