Removing deleted files from the backup set

Does N360 remove deleted files from the backup set?

I have Norton Backing up my  files on an external HD. There is only one backup set. As far as I know that set is overwritten each time a new backup is done. Would that simply add new files not included with prior backups ... leaving the previous files intact? if that is true, then the backup file would get progressively larger after each backup! Is there no way to open a backup file and scrub the unwanted baggage out. I spend Hours locating Duplicate and old, unused files and deleting them. If I get them ALL back after a Backup restore someday.... well I just don't want to think about it!

To add to what bjm_ posted. The files deleted from your computer do not get deleted from the backup set because the one of the reasons for a backup is to protect you in case files get accidentally deleted. Norton has no way of knowing if you meant to delete the file or not.

No, files that a user deletes from their machine that were previously backed up with a backup set .... remain with the backup set.
