Renew Norton Antivirus 2011 in English From Japan

Hi,

Last year I bought Norton Antivirus 2011 in English from Japan.

Wehn I wanted to renew one year the **Express Renwal** takes me to a Japanese pagesaying that the link is invalid.

Now my subscription have expired and I don:t know how to renew it. Whenever I click Express Renwal I still get the invalid link page.

It should be clear that I am in Japan now but I want to renew my software in English.

Thanks

Hello Meayman,

I too live abroad and find you always get redirected to the host language site which never helps. I have found that the easiest and usually cheapest option is to buy a boxed version of Norton where you are and just enter the licence key in the relevant box and you should be alright. Just remember that next year if you should auto update, it will download a Japanese version so you will need to the same or download the Englsh version from the relevant site.

Thank you Brummie for your sugesstion, but I already bought the English version very expensive here in Japan and if I buy new one it is so expensive again, so I prefer renwal of subscribtion if it is cheaper.

Thanks Krusty13.

I will try your sugesstion and let you know what happen.

Thanks meayman.  Do keep us informed as it could well help others.

Cheers,  Dave.

Hello meayman

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

Do you want to renew NAV 2011 or get NAV 2012. You should be able to enter in your Japanese key into the English program without a problem. You would just have to remember to come here to get the program in English. If you go to the Update Center it will download it in Japanese then. I am going to double check this as I know it will work with other foreign languages, but since Japanese uses different symbols than English, I will double check for you. Here are the links for NAV 2011 and NAV 2012 just in case it will work. Don't do anything else yet until I check this out first.

(thanks to Yaso for the links).

Hi Krusty,

I contacted the chat support and they directed me to support who finally concluded that I can only buy the English version from any store near by me because Japan is not included in the Symanticstore page in English.

This is a shame because the English version here costs more than 70 dollars. Meanwhile it is sold in Amazon store of USA for 27 dolalrs!!

Thanks Guru,

waiting for your confirmation. I wish that the Japnese key works for the English version. Then I will have no problem. I can buy the Japanese version for sure.

Hi,

Instead of doing the renewal through the Norton Antivirus you can manually purchase a renewal from here then you'll receive a renewal code for that purchase enter it in the expired Norton AV to renew it.

Thanks for the update meayman.  I would definitely follow SUBASH_PRABU's suggestion.  If you have spent money please don't forget Symantec offer a 60 day refund on there products.  I hope you can get the best possible outcome.

Cheers,  Dave.

Hello

Subash's link seems to lead to the US store and I don't think he will be able to purchase the US version using a credit card from Japan. I don't see any listing for the Japanese store listed either . I've had some suggestions from some of the other Guru's about this saying it should work ok, but I am still hesitant about whether you should try buying the Japanese version and then using one of my links to get the English version and then just use the Japanese key to activate it.

I am going to try asking someone directly, but since the weekend is coming up, I don't know if I will get an answer today. We may have to  wait till after the weekend to get an answer. Thanks.

Hello meayman

I have just confirmed what I thought should be the case here. You can purchase NAV 2012 in Japanese and then use that key to activate the program in English. You can use the NAV 2012 key in Japanese to activate either NAV 2011 or NAV 2012. Just pick out the appropriate version from the links I provided earlier in one of my posts here in this thread.

Please remember though that you have to come to the Forum here to get any new versions or updates to the program. Normally, the updates are tied to the key, so we want to avoid the problem of getting the updates in Japanese.

Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.

Hi, meayman.  There is a problem with buying your copy of NIS locally in Japan.  The thing to remember about NIS is that the Language purchased is embedded in the Product Key.  Therefore, when it comes time to automatically upgrade - the user is redirected to the Language purchased - not the language installed.

If you automatically upgrade at some time in future using your existing Product Key - the upgrade downloaded and installed will be the one for the Language purchased - which in your case will not be the desired Language.  Thusly, automatic upgrading is not a viable way for you to obtain newer versions when the Language purchased is not the Language desired.

Yes, purchasing your new copy of NIS locally - and using its Product Key to Activate your existing installation - is a valid idea for now.  However - a year from now - things will get really inconvenient.  This will be especially so if you forget which Language you purchased between now and then - and you take advantage of an offer of an automatic upgrade at that time - thinking all is well.

There are two solutions to this problem:

1. IMO, the best solution is to obtain a US English Product Key.  You can purchase a US English version of NIS - from anywhere in the world that offers a USA version of NIS.  Then, the Product Key is for US English.

Thus all the "automatic" stuff will work properly.  All you require in your case is the right Product Key.  Your new key will activate NIS 2010, NIS 2011 or NIS 2012.  Thus, if you have family in the US that can purchase a copy of NIS locally - and they can send you the Product Key by email or such - that's all you need to renew or upgrade easily without a Language mismatch.

If a family member can't buy a copy of the US Version of NIS at a good price local to them - NIS in US English is commonly available on Amazon or Ebay at good prices.  However, you can get scammed on that.  You want to make sure whoever you purchase the product from has a good reputation and is an honest dealer.

Making your purchase in this way guarantees you get a Product Key for a US Version of NIS - and thus you avoid all the potential problems that occur when you use Option 2 below.

2. As already mentioned, you can manually download the newer Installation Executable for the USA - and install using that particular Installation Executable.  NIS will then be installed in the correct Language.  Then, you can use the Product Key from the Language you bought locally - since a valid Product Key will activate any language purchased.

There is only one "gotcha":  You must then remember  that your Product Key and your installed Language do not match - and therefore "automatic" things won't work properly.  As long as you remember to download any upgrades manually and install the proper Language manually before using your Product Key to activate - things work as they should..  If you forget, you will get a mismatch between what Language NIS thinks it should automatically upgrade you to - and what Language you want NIS to upgrade you to.

Your call.  I think Option 1 is a lot less hassle.

Hope this helps.

Hi Subach,

The link you sent me takes me to this

http://www.symantecstore.jp/

Where again I can&t find this renew option in Japanese

Thanks floplot and Twixt for your suggestions. I see it won't be easy to use the Japanese key for my English program renewal. Unfortunately I don't have family in teh US, and the US Amazon store refuses to sell software outside the USA, I already tried this.

I don't know what is best to do. I am disappointed with Norton store not listing Japan and it seems I have no way but buy & use a new Japanese version. It is a shame though because I won't be making use of its best because of the language barrier.

I am grateful for all of you who tried helping me.

Thanks

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience please contact our chat support from here and ask them to renew your Norton Product.

Regards

Subash

Hi, meayman.  It doesn't necessary have to be a family member who gets you the US Version of NIS that you want.  Anyone

local in the USA can do that for you.  Then all they have to do is email you the Product Key for the new product.

You input the new Product Key into your existing version of NIS - and your subscription is established for a year.  Once that is in place - you can upgrade at your convenience.

A friend, or anyone you contact that can purchase locally for you, can get you that good deal on Amazon.  Once you've got your key - you are in business as described above.  You can get the money into their hands as agreed upon between you and the purchaser.

If you decide to work as detailed - once you get your new Product Key - come back here and we will tell you how to input that new Key into your existing installation of NIS.  With that in place, you are back in business with what you have installed - and you can then cross the upgrade bridge whenever you wish.

Subash also has a valid suggestion.  Once you contact Symantec North America product support via Chat - they can assist you in the process of upgrading your existing subscription - while retaining your correct North American Language Product Key.  This will also solve your problem - but might be more expensive.

Hope this helps.

Hello meayman

If you follow  my suggestion, there is no problem. You can purchase the product in Japanese and just input the key into the English version from the link I have posted above. The only thing you have to remember is to come to the Forum for the update links in the future instead of going to the update center and to turn off the automatic download of the product. If you want to keep NAV 2011, you can just use the key from NAV 2012.

If you happen to get a download in Japanese instead of English, all you would have to do is delete the Japanese version and use the link we would give you for the English version and put in the  Japanese key again.

I think Twixt is making it sound more complicated than it is. You don't have to get the English version from the United States directly. There are a lot of users who get the product in one language and want the product in another language and all they do is download it in the  language that they want and use the other key and  come here for the correct link for the language desired. Thanks.
