Norton's nagging about sub renewal starts 30 days before expiration date and can get rather annoying. In the past I didn't want to renew TOO early because I'd lose credit for my "days remaining." But today I clicked the RENEW NOW link and there was a line saying that my existing time would be added to the new sub. That sounds reasonable so I went ahead and renewed using a renewal code from a disk I had just bought. I had 23 days left on the sub.
Result: I now have 366 days of sub remaining, same as if I had renewed at ZERO.

So what's up?

When you use a key you have purchased you effectively make a new installation even if you don't reinstall and that's why you only got the 366 days; renewing is purchasing a renewal from Norton on line and that extends your subscription by adding it on.
As you have probably found it's a lot cheaper to buy a retail copy from a reliable source ..... in which case we suggest holding it until a couple of days before expiry despite any nagging.
Norton will put it right if you contact them as indicated but it is a concession and it's better to avoid if you can.
I lost two months of my old subscription by renewing early. I got into a chat session with support and that manually gave me credit, but it could have been avoioded if Norton did some checking in their renewal application to see if you already had an subscription and were renewing. I think they default to automatic renewal and I should have waited for that. I got a pop-up to renew at a good price, took it, and even though I clicked on renew, it gave me a new subscription.

Are you sure you bought a renewal and not a new copy?
If it really was a renewal then it should have added to your unexpired time and I'm glad that the support team sorted it out for you.
I don't think there is any way that Norton computers could determine whether you are renewing and existing subscription or buying a copy for a new computer unless you tell them which in effect you do by choosing between Renew and Purchase.
From what I remember of the websites involved it is not difficult to make a mistake.
