Working on HP Pavilion w/Windows 8.1 and NIS latest version. Live updates cause either or both of these problems: No scanning ability following updates- Norton scan options hung up. No access to internet. Have had repeated sessions with tech support and every time the only solution they've offered is to de-install and re-install NIS. This does not solve the problem. To recitfy the internet connection problem have had to do a system restore to a previous point where internet access existed.
Problem has been constant since June 2013 when HP was purchased with Norton preloaded. During latest tech support session, the internet connection was cut during the activation of account sequence of the de-install/re-install. Does anyone have any experience with this and suggestions for solution?

Attempted in July to run malwarebytes and Norton blocked it- so gave up on that.
Have rebooted several times during the several tech support sessions and on my own
What hardware scans would one run to check this problem
Norton called yesterday to find out what happened after I was cut off during the last tech support session. I fully described my months of frustration and asked what could be causing this recurring problem that tech support has not been able to fix- their reply was "maybe your hardware or software is incompatible with Norton AntiVirus".
Hi, plynch2091. There are two options we can try. You could run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool, which will remove your current install and replace it with a fresh one. The link is here. http://www.norton.com/nrnr
That may help to ensure that you have a functional Norton product.
Have you had any other trial security programs that came with the computer ? If so, they need to be deleted using the manufacturers removal tool.
The second option is to do a Windows file scan to make sure you have no damaged Windows files.
Using Command Prompt, right click on Run with administrator privileges, and in the Run box, type sfc /scannow.
This will check your Windows files, and attempt to repair any that may be damaged. Note the space after sfc.
Are you using Norton DNS Settings on your computer? I was using Norton DNS and the problem that you are describing are similair to my problems, and i disconnected Norton DNS from my computer, and Liveupdate and rest of norton functions started to work in normal parameters again, but i had to restart my computer after that.
How would I check that? I remember two tech support sessions where they changed DNS settings and that killed my internet connection- to the point where I had to do a systems restore to a previous date.
Have tried to check for Windows corrupt files- at command prompt- but get message that I must be an admiinistrator running a console session. I am an administrator in my Windows user profile. Is there somewhere else that I need to set this? Also, what is a console session?
I have run sfc /scannow and received message that some corrupt files were found but all could not be fixed. Attempted to open the log file but access denied. I do not want to change P addresses on computer. So I guess I am at an impass with this. Thank you for your attempts to find solution.
Have run chkdsk and found no errors. Today Norton bombed again. Desperate I tried Power Eraser. It found no problems but evidently kick started Norton so it is running ok again..... like whacking the TV to bring in a good picture.... anyway, I'm at impasse as to what is going periodically goofy here and will have to live with it, I guess until my subscription runs out.
