I am a new user of Norton Ghost. I have Win XP SP 3. I'd appreciate some brief answers about how to best replace a presently-functioning C:\ drive with a brand-new, larger drive using Ghost. I have already done backup images of my existing C:\ drive and my larger drive, which has D:\ and E:\ partitions. I have also done a Symantec Recovery Disk (SRD). And my images are all on a Maxtor OneTouch 4 USB external drive of 320 GB. My present drives are 40 GB (C:\ drive) and 80 GB (D: and E: partitions). I am frankly a bit confused about how best to do this based upon reading through several threads here.
My questions:
1. In the Ghost Manual, is there a relatively straighforward description someplace about how to replace an existing C:\ drive with a brand new larger C:\ drive?
2. If I shut down the pc and remove the existing C:\ drive, physically install (including all connections) a brand new larger drive as replacement, and then power up and boot up using the SRD, will Ghost on the SRD:
a. Designate the new, unformatted HD as the C:\ drive (or will that be done automatically in the restore image process)?
b. Allow me to restore the C:\ image on the USB drive to the new, larger drive so that the new drive will become one, fully formatted partition, including the boot sector, instead of merely formatting the old drive's 40 GB partition size?
c. Present me the options during the restore process (drive to drive? partition to partition?) so as to accomplish tasks a. and b. above?
Thank you for any help here. I am sure that my questions reveal a lack of understanding of the imaging and restoring/cloning process, I am afraid.
