Had gotten so bad recently that I was *forced* to do something.  Many, many times per day -- whenever I went on Standby, then back ON -- NIS "ate" my cpu at a 50-90% level use.  Would go on for a solid 50-minutes or so, *everytime*.  Feared it was doing (or already had done?) irreparable harm to my computer.  System was almost unusable, b/c so slow.

Recommendation from the Forum (back in Dec.) was to do an NRT, reinstall, etc, etc.  But, of course, that removes GHOST and NU too, with their attendant lengthy reinstalls, LU's, etc.

So, I first tried just an Uninstall of NIS from the CD, then reinstall.  That worked. NIS no longer grabs the cpu after "Standby."  All is back to normal. Though took me 2-hours of valuable time to fix this, could have been (much) worse with NRT.

Special shout-out to Forum Guru "peterweb" for all his prior help.
