In advance of re-installing Win7 (32-->64bit) I had exported my passwords. The file that I have is NortonPasswords.csv. However, when I browse to locate the file, N360 is looking for IDDStore.dat.
How can I get my csv file restored to N360?

Mark -- Hang on for some adice from someone who uses N360 and the Iditenty Safe which I don't.
But I think when you Export the data file you should have gotten the choice of making a dat file which may be the native Idetity Safe format or a csv file which is a universally understood format -- comma separated values -- that most data bases can read.
So I would guess that if you open Identity Safe and look for Import you should find it opening a file management screen and you would have the ability to select the format for it to accept -- point it at the csv file location and that should do it ...
I guess .....
You can be looking to see if there is Import there but someone should know from using it.
Hi,
1) Can you tell us the version of Norton 360 you had installed?
2) From where did you run the backup of Identity Safe Data to get a CSV file?
Did you backup from "Backup Identity Safe Data" UI?
then the backup file should be in NPM file format only, Norton 360 do not backup in CSV format.
Note:- Backup and restore of Identity Safe Data in CSV file format is supported only in Norton Internet Security/Norton 360 2012 version of product which we presently in BETA.
Did you backup using "coExport.exe" file which is found under "C:\Program Files\Norton 360\Engine\Build Number\?
If you had backed up using that CoExport.exe then you will get a CSV format backup file, but you cannot restore that CSV file, you can open the CSV file using notepad and recreate all the logins.
Apparently I actually used "Export your Identity Safe data to a portable profile" placing the N360 v5x file on an external memory stick for the purpose of the OS change and not backup. Therefore, is there not a matching 'Import' function?
Mark
mark,
Looks like my guess was wrong but hang on for anything more from viveksu .... names in red here mean you have a Norton Staffer and they are the folk actually involved in writing and QC on the programs!
I wonder if anyone knows of a third party utility that would put the csv file back into the format natural to Identity Safe ..... seems odd to only have a one way stream ....
Ah I see more clearly that that is covered in the 2012 beta versions which are in late stage beta and usually get released in the next couople of months. See if viveksu suggests you download the beta -- to another machine since you cannot run two different versions on the same OS and although advanced the beta should not be used on a production PC -- convert and re-export the file. Watch for a Private Message -- that symbol up top right on this screen turns yellow -- in case Noorton suggest they can do it for you <gdr>
(1). "Export Identity Safe Data" option creates .NPM file that can be restored back using "Import Identity Safe data"
(2). If CoExport tool in the C:/..../Engine/ folder is used, CSV file is created which is the plain text format for the user to read. This cannot be restored back into current version of N360 product.
(3). If "Export your Identity Safe data to a portable profile" is used then a portable profile will be created in the USB flash memory stick. (i.e) a .DAT file will be created in the folder named "NortonIdentitySafeData"
If you have .CSV file then you should have used (2) .
Or if you have used the option (3) then you should have the .DAT file on your USB memory stick.
Final point is .CSV file cannot be restored back using N360, but can be viewed using notepad. .DAT and .NPM files can be restored back.
Thanks for the explanation.
However, I suggest a warning be placed somewhere prominent in the export csv process to alert the customer as to total consequences. Frankly, as someone mentioned earlier in this thread, common sense (to the customer) would suggest that whatever you allow to go out (regardless of extension) you would allow back in.

Yes. I totally accept your point.
Based on the feedback from customers like you, Identity safe is reworked and this option to restore .csv file has been implemented in our upcoming release NIS 2012. But sorry that this is not available in already released versions of NIS / N360.
