Restore "...signature" and "...boot record"?

When restoring drives with Norton Ghost 15 (in the SRD recovery environment) I've enabled/selected both:

"Restore original disk signature"

and

"Restore master boot record"

Is this desirable?  Are there times one would I want to do differently, please?

Thank you very much, Brian, but after reading and looking up what an SRP is, I don't understand.

I wonder if you thought I typed SRP, whereas I actually typed SRD (a [custom] Ghost 15 boot disc which is where I do all my restorals)(aka IIRC "recovery environment").

I figure it's irrelevant that I'm using WinXP instead of Win7, and I'm guessing that's why I don't even really know what a "System Reserved Partition" is.

coyote2,

Yes, I did realize you typed SRD. With WinXP you would choose the option "if a SRP is not present". WinXP options are the same as Win7 options.

The last section

Restore to the same HD if a SRP is not present

Verify recovery point before restore
Partition type : Primary
Check for file system errors after recovery
Set drive active (for booting OS)

 doesn’t mention either

Restore original disk signature

or
Restore master boot record

Does that mean not to select/enable these options when restoring to the same HDD?

Correct as both are already present.

Thank you very much Brian.  When restoring to the same HDD I've often selected them both, I guess I thought doing so couldn't hurt and might help.  I'll take your word for it I was wrong to do so!
