Restoring old ghost 8.0 image

Hello,

a customer of mine does have an  Ghost 8.0 image file of a Windows Vista Business Edition partition. When he tried to restore it generated error 25003 so he could not restore then partition. Is it possible that when I (or he) purchase(s) a newer version of Ghost he will be able to restore this partition (There is some important data on the image file that he does not want to loose) without running into the error 25003?

Any help would be appreciated

kind regards

Erik,

Does the image Verify?

Can you extract data from the image using Ghost Explorer?

Ghosts 8 and 11 are the only apps that will work with this image. What is the file name extension?

If I remember correctly the 8.0 version only made the standard .gho files and I thought for sure any version of Ghost that used that format could support them.  I don't think it was until the 8.1 versions that it became the solution suite and was able to use the powerquest style of .v2i files.

Ironically, I think ghost 2003 got updated farther, the last few builds had even better support for NTFS and SATA and I know I have used it on one of the old enterprise versions.

Brian is correct as always, first thing to do is try opening and checking it with Ghost explorer.

You also might want to ask the person if he remembers how it was made, if he did it in windows with Ghost32 and your trying to restore in DOS I would say you having a problem with the old versions SATA support.

Best of luck,

Dave

Thanks for your advice. I managed to find a copy of Ghost 11.5 which indeed worked with this .GHO file. It verified ok and afterwards the 11.5 version was able to restore the partition without problems. So everything is fine now!

Again thanks for your help, it put me on the right track

kind regards

Erik
