Hi,
I got a Runtime Error from Norton 360 and Symantec recommended to remove all Norton products with a downloaded NortonRemoval tool and then reinstall the Norton 360. It is a 32-bit XP machine.
I have successfully been running the NortonRemoval tool and restarting the machine as prompted.
When trying to download a new fresh Norton 360 to the machine from the Norton Product page I logged into with my Norton account, I was prompted that I didn't have any more licenses and the machine I just removed the Norton 360 from showed up as using one license.
The only way I could get a download was to delete the license for the machine I just had removed Norton 360 from and then add the same machine by downloading and installing Norton 360.
The problem with this is though that I lost all my settings in Norton 360.
Is there a way to "connect" the newly installed Norton 360 to the already existing DefaultSet backup that I have on an internal secondary hard drive?
Does that DefaultSet contain the information of what files, types and folders to select during a backup, or do I have to enter all that information about other file types and other folders to look in?

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums. 
Your machine should see the old backup and you should be able to recover the information that was backed up but I am not aware of any way of extracting the settings for the old backup set from the archive. If others are aware of how to do this then I encourage them to post here.
If you were just using the "Default Set" and had not amended the default Norton settings then you should be able to do the same again. If you had selected a specific set of files for backup or in any way customised it, then I believe you will need to go through that process again. 
One thing to note is that if you still use the name "DefaultSet" the new backup set may attempt to overwrite the old set, which if you change the settings, may not be desirable. So you may wish to change the name of the backup set as a precaution.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have used the original Norton name of DefaultSet on the original backups before I had to reload Norton 360.
I had set up a special set of files and folders over and above the Norton standard set, but I am not sure of all extra file types that I inserted, hence the request for any possible way of recovering this set from the already taken backup set.
I would desire that the new backups overwrite the files that have been modified and leave all the other files.
The main reason for this is that the original backup set is about 900MB and if I just create a new backup set with a new name then I will store a lot of information twice, which is just a waste of space and time only to take a new backup that is as close to identical as I can remember to set up the backup set.

If you look at the files on the existing backup you can see what file extensions have been used but otherwise I cannot think of any way of automatically recovering your personalized settings.
I can understand you wanting to merge the old and new backup but would be wary of trying this as a slight change may cause it to work in ways that you had not intended. Given that the size of the backup does not appear too large why not create a new backup, compare it is size and content with the old one and then when you are satisfied that the new one contains all that you would wish, remove the old set and delete its files? I would not have expected space to be an issue for such a temporary arrangement as even if you have limited space on any external media, N360 offers at least 2 GB of free online storage space and your backup is apparently less than half of that.
